Do you regularly deworm? I don't mean like giving Heartguard or whatever. But say you take a dog to the vet to get their fecal. The vet does the fecal and says it's negative. Would you still do a broad spectrum deworming (like Panacur)? |
I don't. Why would you need to if there's no worms to deworm? Would there be another reason or benefit? |
I don't either but when we first got my first two, they'd go have their fecals done (once every 6 months) and then they'd give us yellow dewormer even though their fecals were normal. They'd tell us to wait two hours and then give the dewormer. We've since got a new vet and I've never been given dewormer like that since. I was just thinking about it and how weird it was and wondering if maybe it was normal. |
Nope. They have fecals 1x yearly (probably should be 2x). Only treat if positive. They get heartworm drugs anyway, so 2-3 types are already covered. If I had young kids, heartworm preventative or not and positive fecal or not they would be dewormed probably 4x yearly. |
I only deworm if I see worms,or I suspect any, other than that they get a fecal test yearly..:p |
Nope. Give Sentinel monthly and have fecal done at least yearly, but that's it. My vet has never recommended anything different...interesting. His fecal has never come back positive for anything. |
No. Tibbe has never had worms in his stool sample so I have not. Unless there were symptoms or other indications he had worms such as a positive stool sample, etc., and the vet recommended it, I would not want to dose him with the medication. |
Mine have never had worms. But I still do once a year because we live on a acreage with other animals. And they sometimes eat things they shouldn't. I try to worm all my animals. |
I don't regularly have her checked but if we have had any fleas during the summer season I do worm her for tape worm. Fleas carry tape worm and if your dog has had any fleas they are carrying tape worm. Other wise if your dog is a home body I don't see any reason for regular worming. |
Iverheart Plus is one of several heart-worm med.s that prevents other worms all together. I also give AVC. So I don't de-worm. I prevent. I did use Pancur on Elvis he came to me with worms-how nasty right? If a fecal showed no worms why on earth would you de-worm? |
