Small white worm in stool ? ( subdued but gross pix attached) 1 Attachment(s) This is first time I am seeing this small white worm (it was moving) in my 2.5 yr olds poop. What is this ? Lots of info while googling but want to know what's the right medication. Sorry cannot afford a vet visit in my current financial situation. I have circled the white slimy one. |
The size of a grain of rice? Did the dog recently have fleas? Your pup does need to go to the vet and have a fecal done so the correct medication can be prescribed. But if that's out of the question, you may be able to get a broadspectrum dewormer OTC (like Panacur). However, that is not at all recommended. |

He can ingest one flea and get tapeworms |
You should google low cost vet clinics in and around your area, one time I took a dog in to a low cost clinic and got his bum glands drained, flea and heart worm meds, and a set of shots for $60. If you can find a low cost clinic and a family member or friend willing to help you out for the time being it would def. be worth it! You should save that poop in a plastic bag and take it to the clinic as well. I would never take on a dog if I couldn't afford to save his/her life... mind you I couldn't afford a $6000 surgery, BUT that's why I have pet insurance... I pay $40 a month for $20,000 in coverage for emergencies, and $800 in dental. Totally worth it. |
Yes, that looks like a tapeworm segment to me! |
It is definately tape worm. Tape worms can come from 2 different sources.. One is by the way of a flea/fleas and the other is eating an animal or animal feces with tape worm. Most worm meds on the market , like no-mo tape and meds like those will NOT kill the tape worm. It only causes segments of the worm to break off and leaves the head of the tape worm. The head of a tape worm attaches itself to the intestine wall and sucks blood from the animal. Leaving tape worm untreated can be dangerous for your pup/dog. This type of worm can also infect humans if ingested. You need to take the stool with the worm into your vet and get a wormer that will KILL the worm. The medicine is not too expensive. if you take the stool in to the vet with you, then the vet should not have to do a fecal. (Not trying to be rude at all here)... I would do whatever I had to do to get my dog wormed and rid of this. Barrow the money? Talk to vet about charging and payment plan? Pawn something at the local pawn shop? Volunteer at a shelter in trade for a dose of wormer? Sell something? I don't know... but I'd do something. Your little dog's health is as stake. |
I would go to a vet. I do not think this would be much $ for a visit and a fecal check to get the right med. Maybe they would accept half now and half in 30 days or work out payments. These could infect humans as well if they are tapeworms. Then you will have human medical bills. I would definitely make the small investment at the vet right now before letting it get worse or causing an infection in members of your family. Usually when you catch something right away, it is easier and much less expensive to fix. |
I meant to say causing an investation not causing an infection. Sorry. |
and by investation i think you meant infestation :D ...maybe lol |

Care credit... Get this dog to a vet. |
When I was in desperate need of some vet help I contacted the Humane Society who would've helped had I not received bogus care already for her at a nutty vet. Maybe contact them? |
People take on tapeworms on purpose..... Google "tapeworm diet" Just saying. |

"I'll take burnt toast and a rotten egg. I got a tape worm and it's good enough for 'em." Sorry, random thought. |
