anaesthetic Hi every one I want to get prudence spayed asap and I read somewhere about the anaesthetic you shouldnt use on yorkies.I talked about my concerns with my vet today and she said if Im really worried she will refer me to a specialist anaesthesia vet to do the spay.Any thoughts or advice? |
If you are truly set on spaying her then I would defintiely recommend a specialist, particularly one familiar with the needs of small toy breeds like yorkies. I would also look into the less invasive procedures like laporoscopy, tubal ligation and laser surgery. You defintiely want a state of the art facility and a professional that spends time with you addressing your concerns, gives you a tour of the operatory and explains the equipment used and the entire surgical process including what anesthesia will be used, who will be monitoring the vitals (I recommend a second vet) and how long your baby wil be under. I have decided at this point against spaying my two small females because I have not been convinced that the risk of the surgery outweighs the benefits. Mine are with me 24/7 and there is no risk of unwanted pregnancy since my male is neutered. If I change my mind in the future and decide for whatever reason that one of both need to be altered I will do what I advised above and probably do the laporoscopy of the tubal ligation. Good luck. |
Thanks kim for your reply.I certainly will do my research but the dilema I have is I live in a really small country so lets face it we dont have the yorkie population like you do in the states and I dont know whether my vet has ever worked on a yorkie.I rang the lady I got prudence from and spoke to her vet nurse and she told me what anaesthetic they use I cant spell it but Its called Isaflorane they use it with oxygen Prudences brother is little like her and he got nueted with no problem.I know spaying is more evasive.Any more advice would be greatly appreciated. |
