Anyone feeding ACANA Is anyone feeding Acana Pacifica? I'm thinking of trying it with Zhoie, but I'm not sure about the protein which is 32%. I'm not sure what using higher protein would do, but I recall it's not good to feed to these little one. Can anyone enlighten me:confused: |
Protein percentages are a matter of great debate. Some sources say that as long as a dog is healthy and doesn't have any liver or kidney issues, the sky is the limit. Other sources recommend not exceeding a certain amount. Why do you want to switch brands? What food are you currently feeding? |
I feed Acana Grasslands. The boys love it and have never had a problem. I do rotate every so often, but this is what they have most of the time. There is alot of debate over higher protein foods, but this is one of the lower protein foods in our rotation. |
I feed ACANA. Riley Loves it....and I Love it, for him! I have fed all of them... Right now I am feeding ACANA/Ranchlands. If you Google Orijen White Paper starting on Page 26, they talk about PROTEIN. I tried to upload it, here, but it wouldn't let me. It is in a pdf format. Here is something from the Champion/Orijen website about protein: Orijen Pet Foods: About ORIJEN: |
We feed Primal raw and Orijen.. Izzy has never had a problem... But we do keep her treats to ones like zukes, fruitables or k9 crunchers.... |
I feed Max Acana "Wild Prairie" dog food |
I feed Pnut acana, have now for about a year 1/2.. he loves it, I love it for him! I switch between Pacifica and Ranchlands. I like it bc it works well for him, that's all it comes down to: find a food that works well with ur baby and leave it! |
Well it certainly has a great review. Dog Food Comparison Chart - Dog Food Ratings of Premium Dog Food and Supermarket |

She's been on Taste of the Wild Pacific Stream. Fish flavors is about all she likes, except I do mix some canned chicken Instinct with it. Been eating it for a long time, but I can't seem to get he stools so there not just a few little hard pebbles. She doesn't eat anything else. I can get her to take a couple bits of apple or peaches. I bought a can of Weruva chicken flavor with pumkin at the specialty store yesterday and she went nuts over it. Had a really nice bm this morning, thinking the pumkin may help. I tried getting her to eat pumkin, but it's a no go on that too. Just thinking of putting her on something a little better and switching the flavors. |
I love Acana -- think it's a really wonderful food! I always had good luck with it, and 32% protein is not really ALL that high.... and the protein is coming from good sources. |
I think I may start mixing some in with her TOTW and she how she does. I've try the other flavors of TOTW and she won't have anything to do with them. Wish us luck :D |
We use Acana Grassland and Ranchlands. Grassland in the am, ranchland in the pm, and small mix of both half day :) Never had a problem with any little dogs on it that I have had through my home. I plan on switching Maci to it once she's home tuesday :) |

Why Acana would be my question? There was a thread here not long ago about some Champion issues. I wouldn't say their protein sources any healthier/better than other companies. It comes from the waste of a fishing company. Would otherwise be sent to rendering to be disposed of. So all I am saying is if you want to feed it because they present their meat source as something great, then there would be no reason to. As Maximo said, protein % is a matter of great debate. Have you talked to your vet about it? It's personal preference. We don't feed high protein foods here because medically it doesn't make sense to me. |
[QUOTE=Britster;3683463]I bought a can of the Weruva too and it looked delicious! I wanted to eat some! LOL. It's low fat so that was my main reason for purchasing but Jax eats it up... so yummy. LOL, I know the Weruva does look just yummy. Zhoie is totally nuts over it and twirls all the way to the sunroom where she eats. Love it! |
i have been feeding coco Acana Ranchland... not sure if it is because of higher protein level, she has developped some odd behaviours. for example, she will wake up at 5.30am every day and bark for no reason. and at night she does not want to go to bed... Anyone's dog developped weird/strange personal issues? I am thinking of switching and see if her behaviours change. |
Brutus got a shipment today. I ordered him the Wild Prarie and so far he seems to love it. I am going to start weening him off the wet I/D food (vet's advice) and I feel better knowing he is now eating a good food. I also ordered him the bully sticks and he really LOVES them. Is there a benefit of having 2 different types of the food? Thanks for all the wonderful advice, if it benefits him I am willing to try whatever is working for everyone else. I already have 2 doggy beds, but think I will also order a cloud 9 from the Rescue. |
