Bella drinks A LOT of water! Hi, Bella is my new 10 weeks old Yorkie and she drinks a lot! at the same time she pees a lot as well. her pee is totaly transparent. I give her Royal Canin for puppies only. same food I give Maya. The vet said she either fixated on water or just eating salty treats but I dont give her salty treats or food. he also mentioned that puppies may drink a lot for a while. should I be concerned about kidney problems?? Thanks! |
i would get a second opinion. excessive water intake and urination can be the results of thyroid disease, diabetes, and other medical conditions. if you are worried i would recommend a full blood work panel that checks for these types of things. |
I agree, i would definitely have a full urinalysis done and a full bloodwork panel to be sure there is nothing to worry about. Excessive drinking and urinating is not normal. |

Hi! took her to the vet today for full blood and urine test. If they discover that she has certain type of medical issue, Can I go back to the breeder and request my money back? what are my "rights"? |
You need to read your Breeders contract carefully to see where you stand. In CA, we have a Doggy Lemon Law but, not sure what recourse you have in Cananda. Most of the time (in CA), you can still keep your dog and the Breeder becomes responsible for the $ care of your dog. Other times, you must return the dog in exchange for a replacement puppy or a refund. My concern with returning a dog who has medical issues is what will the Breeder do with this dog? If the Breeder is not reputable or ethical..."your" dog could be euthanized!:( |
I'm not sure why a vet would say it's okay. It may be a habit, salt, etc., but things still need to be ruled out. Blood and urine is a good place to start. Dogs, and esp. the young ones, can get something called medullary washout. They drink and drink (habit) and then can't concentrate their urine. Sometimes water restriction is needed, but obv. NEVER EVER do that without a vet telling you to. If it's diabetes insipidus, water restriction can cause dehydration and death. ..which would bring you to the next rule out..diabetes insipidus. I'd just wait to see what the pending tests tell you. You may find your answer there (UTI, kidney issues, etc.). |
I have never bought a dog from a breeder so i have no idea what your rights are. But please share the results with us, im curious. I hope its just something like a uti, and nothing serious. that way you can keep her and not have to give her back |

Hope your baby is okay. I wouldn't want you to give her back. Even if it might be something, hopefully it's nothing major. :animal-pa |
I wish you luck, I have a dog that as a pup drank a lot of water. His pee was clear. He is fine. I had his sister .. she wasn't fine. So I am glad you are having it checked out. |

Don't know what that mean though, I will tel my vet tomorrow Thanks |
When I was transitioning to a dog food from puppy kibble, I tried a couple of samples (and my mom let Gizmo get a hold of some of her dogs food) and I noticed that he drank alot more on some foods, then he did others. I'm not saying that's the case with your pup. But it's good that you're getting it ruled out. |

Anyone knows what type of good has less salt in it? Thanks |
It's not sometimes just salt. It can be protein, or sometimes just even a slight allergy to something. |
Her little tummy feeling warm almost sounds like allergies to me. I know Kayla will feel so hot sometimes its unreal. We keep our home really cool and also sleep under a fan at nite. She will lay right in front of the fan at times and I never put a little tee shirt or pj's on her like I do Dudley. He and Tina freeze, so they have to sleep in something warm. |
