Thanks re kennel cough recipe We collected our little boy 10 days ago and the day after we got him the dreaded cough started. Straight tp the vet who wouldn't diagnose kennel cough but didn't rule it out just said it was a chest infection and gave us anti biotics. After 4 days there didn't seem much improvement so after a search I found the recipe on this site. Only 2 days and already the little boy is hardly coughing at all and when he does it hardly bothers him whereas before he seemed really upset about it. Thanks to you all :D |
what kind of recipe? My dogs dont have it, but i am just curious what kind of recipe you found so i can see it. |
Hi I found it on the site 1dollop of good honey (best you can get) 1dollop of blackcurrant jam Mix with cooled boiled water 1/2 drops of tea tree essential oil Mix well, I give my 3pound yorkie 1teaspoon 3times a day, he just licks it off a saucer hope that's right, if not could someone put me right  |
Wow, good to know! Jackson has had KC twice, thankfully both were treated quickly and went away fairly fast. But it's a pain in the butt to deal with! |
I would be very careful about giving ( Tea Tree Oil ) orally as I have read many places that it is highly toxic to dogs if ingested. |
That's worrying, hope someone can comment on the recipe, as I said I found it on this site:eek: |
Thanks for the warning about tea tree oil, the recipe came from the UK dog forum. I have googled it and found the warnings, no more for our puppy, I am so angry that I blindly followed advice without researching it.:thumbdown Thank you so much for your comment  Hope my baby is OK |
How long has it been since you used it ? I would call your vet & ask about it just to be safe. |
we was told by the vet to give him babies cough syrup it seemed to work for us |
Thanks for the tip about baby cough syrup Phoned the vet and he just said keep an eye on him, he seems fine, eating, playing, sleeping and toiling as normal, fingers crossed X |

I can say this for sure, kennel cough in most healthy dogs will run it's course. Chloe had it. There is a certain Robitussin you can give to help them with the cough if it's bad. My vet said if the cough isn't too bad to let it alone because it's a productive cough, which means it brings up the phlem that's in there. Chloe coughed off and on for 2 weeks, spit up some phlem, and it went away. I did not give her antibiotics. You will have a much healthier dog if you hold off on them as much as possible and allow their bodies to fight the infection. Of course there are times you just have to! |
