How often to bath Hi Everyone:) I was curious as to how often to bath my baby girl? i have been bathing her every week to two weeks is that to much? a lady at pet store today told me to only wash three times a year!!! i dont think i can do that:( is it harmful to the furbabies to get washed regularly? BTW i just love this YT everyone is so great on here as i am new to it i am getting addicted to it so much to read and learn :animal36 |
I bathe every week:) If I go any longer.. 9 or 10 days, she starts to get rather grungy. I think it is totally fine. I think the lady at the petstore was cuckoo for cocoa puffs! |
I bathe ZoE once a week. She sleeps in my bed & I want a clean pup on my sheets. |
Mine are bathed weekly. |
once a week for Mrs. Beasley also. |
Thank you Ladies i feel much better :) i like her fresh smelling to even tho she thinks having a bath is me torturing her lol she so hates it, hopefully as she gets older we can have more fun doing it. |
My vet told me the reason yorkies need bathes more frequently is because they have hair and not fur like most dogs more tended to get greasy just like human hair..... hope this makes sense. He told me once a week is ok you will be able to tell when yorkie needs bath. |
I wash mine about every week to 10 days. |
It depends.... summer he tends to get one more. About once a week due to swimming, rolling around outside, and just smelling like outdoors. Winter is less - probably every 10-15 days. Also when his hair is shorter he needs it a lot less. When it's a bit on the "longer" side it needs more, like every 7 days, so it doesn't look grungy. |
Callie gets a bath every week although sometimes its every two weeks after a week though she starts getting greasy. Callie didnt like baths when she was a puppy either I would sing silly songs to her and give her a couple of treats and she loves baths now. |
I bathe Belle every week, my shih tzu also has a weekly bath. When I was looking for a new shampoo at Petco last month, a woman who works there looked at me like I was nuts when I told her how often I bathe them. She thought that it would be bad for their skin/coat. I said they are both healthy and have beautiful coats. I wouldn't do it any other way :) (As far as 3 times a year.... that's crazy - even my big dog gets a bath at least once a month!) |
I give Kiko a bath every week or two. Her hair is silkier and tangles less when she stays washed and conditoned. I do have to be careful to make sure the shampoo and conditioner get rinsed all the way out or it irrates her skin a bit (skin gets flaky). Sometimes a dog's skin and coat dries out if they are washed frequently. I suppose it depends on breed, products used, and the individual dog. I would suggest washing at whatever interval you are comfortable with, just keep an eye out for dry skin/coat (this is, of course, just my opinion). |
We average about every 7-10 days. Sometimes we go longer, sometimes the boys need baths sooner. Depends on activities and weather. |
Over the summer we usually bathe them every week. That's when they're outside everyday and super active and rolling in everything at the dog park (I'm a teacher so except for grad classes I have summers off and that's when I'm a stay at home puppy mom haha). Spring and fall they get baths every 2-3 weeks, but if they're super stinky from something they'll get a bath. Winter they get it every 3 weeks usually. It's only a problem if they're getting dry skin, but you can give them fish oil or use a milder shampoo. |
I give mine baths once a week. Saturday is bath day! :) Mikki could go longer with her short hair but with Rosie's long hair it is a must once a week. |
We shower Harry once a week, too. Again, that changes if he's happened upon anything nasty! Sally + Harry x |
Riley gets a bath every other Sunday night..... I have doggie bath wipes that I use in between.... :) |
Gizmo gets bathed once a week, and not willingly! :p Other then that, we us baby wipes and his tootsies everynight before bed. I like clean paws if I have to share a bed with them  |
Abby and Riley gets a bath every week. I will probably slow it down as the weather gets colder. |
Mine get bathed weekly. If I went any longer than that, they would begin to look greasy. |
My vet recently told me I was bathing Lola too often (weekly), and said she should probably only be bathed once a month *cringe*, and definitely no more than once every 2 weeks. He said her coat looked dry... I am now bathing her about every 7-10 days, but I changed her diet, and her coat looks shiny again. |
My Coby gets a bath every 10-14 days. He does have itchy skin, so I try not to overdo it, but he does sleep in the bed with me or my little girl, and I don't like a stinky dog! ;) I do put a conditioner in and let it sit for about 5 min, then rinse him really well. |
7 to 10 days, if I go longer, Tucker gets ratty looking too.. it must be a yorkie thing..lol |
agree, we bathe them every 7-10 days too. |

I think yorkie's also have stronger body odor. We have a maltese and they have hair also vs fur and yet she could go 2-3 weeks without being smelly. My benny will be lucky if he can go 5 days until the BO is just too much and needs a bath. Oh btw learning from you guys here I started to squeeze some of my omega 3 capsules into benny's food and it helped big time with his coat and BO and now could go sometimes over a week until a bath. |
Bentley get a bath every 7 to 10 days. If he gets into something nasty or starts to smell then I will give him a bath more often because he does sleep in our bed. NO smelly baby in the bed, plus he sleeps better. I also wash is eyes every day. |
Cali gets a bath every week. She sleeps in my bed so she has to be clean to be there, plus she see patients every day in my office - sometimes as many as 23 - 30 a day and has to be clean to be around all of them. In the winter she gets a little dry skin, I use Omega or Coconut Oil and found a humidifier really helps. |
Romeo gets a weekly bath and sometimes more often if his hair looks oily. I purchase his shampoo and conditioner from the vet (both Oatmeal). |
mine get baths around every 2 to 3 weeks |
