cronic vomiting- acid reflux We got Sophie when she was about 2. She has vomited a couple of times a week for the last 2 yrs, Usually just foam. Mostly in the AM. I took her to the vet twice and they didnt seem too concerned, recommended food change blah blah. I finally had my husband take her and said to get her scoped, whatever it took to get to the bottom of it. They told him it was prob acid reflux. She would cough a couple of times a day, then do a small gag at the end of the cough. vomit a couple of times a week and she burped a lot. They started her on reglan. (I take reglan too) It has really helped. It has only been about a week, but if you have a pukey dog, you might want to give it a try. I wish we had been more aggressive sooner, because I think all the vomiting has made her teeth bad. Had them cleaned twice in 2 yrs and she lost 9 teeth at the second cleaning. She is good now and her breath is soooooo much better.:D |
Glad things are better for her and wow, it has only been a week. |
Glad she is better. |
Sophie So sorry to hear of poor little Sophie's tummy problems. My dog tended to have a little foamy reflux occasionally, but I was able to control by feeding small meals often and a snack before he went to bed to tide him over the night. However he had recent surgery that involved many post-op meds and he lost his appetite and threw up. The Vet gave him 5mg Famotidine two times a day with his food, but that was not perfect so she prescribed an anti-nausea drug called Cerenia, 16 mg once per day. (Or I gave him half the dose twice a day) It is for motion sickness and nausea. It worked so well for my little one, and he soon got his love for food back and no more vomiting. My dog is around 10 pounds. It can be injected also. Another option if you need it. Good Luck with your baby and hope the Reglan keeps him well. |
Glad your baby is better!!! Thank you so much for sharing! Really appreciate that! My Yorkie (Poppy) will also vomit once in a while (every few weeks once or twice) usually foamy with yellowish vomitus. My vet said the exact same things to me as well. How much Reglan are you giving her? TIA! |
