Probiotics
 
Callie went to the vet today for two vaccines and I talked to the vet about some tummy problems shes been having. Well the vet gave me some probiotics to try and see if it helps and if not and she still is having tummy trouble she is going to do some tests. Her poo as been hard and then go to simi runny so she thinks it might level her out. What do yall think about probiotics?

i give them to my jack russell who has stomach issues...I got them from the dr. mercola website.

I would love to know what you use and how it is given to your baby. I have a poodle that has always had tummy issues and have been thinking of giving him probiotics but know nothing about them except that they might help.

I have tried Probiotics for Taycie's ultra sensitive stomach but I didn't find it did alot. The only one I found that worked the best was FortiFlora which I got from my vet.

I use it ocassionally.. but sometimes at least for Taycie, to much caused her poop to be even more runny. FortiFlora comes in packets. If my vet suggests it I will sprinkle about a 1/8 tsp over her food. I don't even use the entire packet.. it is to much for her.

I use this when my vet wants me to use it. It is nice to keep on hand especially after using an antibiotic.
However, working with my vet and changing her diet has been the most beneficial for her.

That is what my vet gave me and said I could use the whole little packet at one time but I felt that was too much even though Callie is 16 pounds so I gave her half.

My vet gave me FortiFlora it comes in a box and has little packets you sprinkle it on there food. My vet said I could do a whole packet but I thought that was to much so I do half. I would definitely talk to your vet about. I started giving it to Callie yesterday so we shall see how it goes.

So far the only thing that has helped Skittles (poodle) is sharing an apple in the morning with the other dogs and me. Noone gets very much,but I seem to have less gas and less poop issues around here if I do this.

I've heard great things about FortiFlora. Another one I like is DogZymes bc it has probio + dig enzymes: Nature's Farmacy - Store - Product Details

probiotics and kidney issues
 
I was completely sold on the use and benefits of probiotics at one time. My little guy got a probiotic pill every other day for about a month. Within that month his kidney levels shot up drastically. Prior to the probiotic he never had kidney issues. I took him off the probiotic and had him retested and his kidney levels were/ are normal again. . .Thank goodness. Use them with caution is my advice.
