Allie and her allergies...?? again Allie has been "diagnosed" with environmental allergies. Vet derm. prescribed Atopica. I have not been giving it to her everyday because sonetimes it makes her sick, some days it doesn't. I took her to her regular vet this afternoon because she is itching soooo bad. He gave her predisone to take with a meal then 2 hours later the med. He suggested that I feed her a "white fish" food. I went to the store and all they had were salmon type food. I thought I read somewhere about a white fish type food. She is currently on natures variety lamb or venison. From everything I've read those are better for allergy dogs, I have not tried duck, but I did buy a bag of stella and chewy dehydrated surf and turf. I crumbled 1/4 of a patty and sprinkled it on top of her venison. I guess my question is does someone make a white fish food, (I prefer raw, she just seems to like it better than kibble.) But I'm not against feeding her kibble if it helps but if she likes the salmon would that be a better choice than the lamb or venison?. Thanks for listening, Janet |
If it's environmental, then why the food switch? Or is it both? Was an anti-nausea med tried with Atopica for the first week? Have antihistamines done any good? If the vet wants to do an elimination diet, then usually one protein and one carb are used (Natural Balance may have something that could work) or an rx diet with hydrolyzed protein. I don't know of any raw premade diets that use whitefish and I don't think any of the companies would make a raw salmon diet for safety reasons. |
The vet derm said environmental, that's what he came up with, without doing the prick tests. The regular vet said that chicken, lamb, salmon were hot foods, and I should feed her cold foods. Something about chinese medicine, to be honest he kinda lost me. The vets are on rotation and i've never seen him before. I asked about something to help with nausesa and that's why he gave the predisone. Is there something else, better, for nausea? The only reason I was thinking about a food switch was maybe there was something better. |
