Human food Hello, Has anyone ever giving their furbabys 100 % pure pumpkin or yogurt? I read the following article related to 10 human foods that are good for dogs and was wondering if anyone can give any advice? Thanks in advance. Here is that link: 10 ?People? I give Abby and Riley a frozen treat made with yogurt and they love it. It is supposed to be good for them. You mix 1 container(small) of yogurt and 1 small jar of baby food apple sauce. You can add a splash of juice if too thick. Spoon into an ice cube tray and freeze. I have given this recipe out too many people and all of their dogs loved it. |
pumpkin is great for dogs if they have diarea (sp?) and yogurt is good for their digestion. I give mine yogurt at least 4 times a week with their food and give them pumpkin whenever they have loose stools. |
Healthy pups can have either one. I'd be careful with the yogurt because it is still dairy and not all dogs will do well with it. Just my opinion - yogurt is overused and overrated. No need for pumpkin unless there is a GI issue and even then it's still best to talk to your vet. It's supposed to firm up or soften stool depending on what is needed (regulatory fiber). However, with my Yorkie I found that all it does is soften it. |
I have tried yogurt in the past but it did nothing but upset Taycie's sensitive stomach. Pumpkin.. I have given when she has an upset stomach but I didn't think it did much.. I always felt it gave her looser stool. So I stopped doing that a very long time ago. I don't know some dogs do ok with it and it really seems to help them. Every dog is different:) |
Jackson always did fine with yogurt. He enjoyed it very much and never had loose stools, etc. It's a good treat to freeze in the Kong to keep them busy for a bit. Never tried pumpkin. I have a feeling he'd not touch it anyways. |
I have only used pumpkin for stomach upsets. I use yogurt sometimes to mix powdered or liquid meds in. Mine like it a lot. I never saw any benefits when they were getting it often so I don't go out of my way to give it- but will give it as a treat or like I said to mix meds. |
My big boys have a dab of Fage Greek yogurt twice a day, a total of less than a teaspoon. They have had it every day since they were pups. I have no idea if it has any benefits, but they do okay with it and like it. Pumpkin I have used a couple of times when Max was constipated. I believe it is low in fat (might be high in natural sugars), but I have read sources that say not to feed it to dogs who have had pancreatitis or digestive disorders. I wouldn't make it a regular part of my dogs' diet. |
