help please... So Tucker has been sick for about 3 days now, with what the vet feels is a stomach ache, built up gas. He is on a bland diet of boiled hamburg and rice, small amounts couple times a day untill he is feeling better. He has been on the same food (sd ideal balance) for 2 maybe 3 weeks now, he eats no table scrapes etc. isnt feed any snacks and only chews on those hard cheese things (sorry cant remember thier name off the top of my head). My kids are older so they no not to feed the dogs anything escpecially Tucker because he has had a senstive stomach since we got him. (doesnt take much to make him throw up).. I didnt not transition is food slowly, yes I know not the right thing to do..BUT he had no trouble what so ever. So is this a reaction to the food he is on or just some strange occurance because of his sensitive stomach?? Should I change his food, yet again or keep him on it? This so frustrating!!...:( |
I'd transition him back when he is better. If it happens again, then switch. If he has been good on the food for 2+ weeks, then it's likely a bug. But if it happens again, then maybe time to switch. Didn't they do well on the regular SD? I assume you mean Himalayan Chews. Definitely pull those until he gets better. Cheese chews aren't good for dogs (JMHO). |
I read your other thread about Tucker going to the vet the past couple of days. Poor little Tucker. Has your vet done blood tests? With Tucker being in that much pain that he was whining, I would wonder about pancreatitis. I'm sure there are also other possibilities. Have you thought about going back to your regular vet since this one really has not come up w a possible diagnosis for poor Tucker? |
http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...-vets-all.html Here's the other thread from poor Tucker's weekend. I guess he is feeling a little better. Hopefully, he's been through the worst of it. Hope you can find some answers. It sounds like a scarey weekend. |

Thanks EllieMay.. He wont be getting anything for awhile other than the bland diet, the chews have been taken away. Yes, they did fine on the regular SD. The cheese chews were the only thing that I found that didnt cause him diarreah. He cant have bullys, pig ears, etc becasue they are all too greasy. What do you recommend for a chew, because he definitly needs something, he is my chewer... Thanks... |

Yes, she did blood work yesterday and an xray and everything came back in the normal range except for he was starting to show signs of being dehydrated, his level was just below the normal line and his sugar was elevated some but she said that, that was because of him being on the predisone (which we have stopped for now) and because he is in pain. His xray showed that he has a belly full of gas but everything else looked fine. I have been in touch with the vet tech that works hand in hand with Tuckers normal vet, she has been over here a few times to check on him and agrees with everything that the other vet has said, other than she thinks they should of given him some subq's and some pepcid. I will take him back to my regular vets if he doesnt continue to show signs of improvement. |

He was starting to show signs of dehydration and they didn't give him fluids??? Not acceptable. Are you absolutely sure he is not at all dehydrated now? If you think he could be, then he needs to go in immediately for fluids. I'll have to read about what happened again. They didn't give any drugs at all? Pepcid wouldn't be my first thought for puking. |
