1 fat 2 skinny dogs I free feed my dogs because 1 has a sensative stomach. The youngest (3years old) has gotten fat. So i put them all on scheduled feedings. I feed according to their ideal weight from before grain. My fat dog stayed fat and the other 2 have gained weight and are pushing fat!!!! Any ideas on what to try next? Im also taking the fattest who started the problem to the vet to make sure shes ok. |

Do scheduled feedings. Cut portions down by at least 1/4. Increase exercise. Yes, get the one checked. And also, Merrick has had 8ish recalls (I think that's the Before Grain?). So you may want to look into that. |

I feel for you. I am going through the same thing. We have 2 schnauzers, 1 fat, 1 weight is fine. Two yorkies. 1 fat, 1 skinny. I have the fat schnuzer (Lexi) and fat yorkie (Kayla) on OM prescription diet food. The one schnauzer that her weight is okay (Tina) eats Welliness Senior. The tiny little male yorkie (Dudley) is on K/d prescription diet because he is being watched for liver problems. Oh, the fun of it. lol!!! I have to seperate them because everyone tries to eat each others food. They only get green beans right now for snacks. Kayla has lost some and doing good. Lexi is losing but slower than Kayla. The vet said not to free feed them. She give me a cup to measure their food, and oh my gosh, I thought, they are going to starve. We have always fed them like a bunch of little pigs and free feed too. It is so important for them to get that weight off though, that I have really tried. I don't want Lexi to end up with diabetes. Schnauzers are prone to diabetes. Kayla is doing so much better with CT since she has lost. Just hang in there and don't free feed and if they are really over weight alot, try the OM. Has really helped mine. |

Fido is too fat, he's on Royal Canin Obesity and it works great ! Also I'm putting him on raw food (I buy it ready, from an icelandic company called Hundahreysti), it has only 8% fat it should make him loose weight :) |

Raw, homecooked, and canned food is full of moisture. This moisture falsely makes the food look lower in fat. It has to be converted to a dry matter basis. A lot of raw foods run 18-25+% fat. |

I'm having a similar problem. Meika, my 3 yr. old Morkie is getting fat, in my opinion. Surprisingly, the vet doesn't think so, she says she is just stockier & deep chested. Wrong. She is getting too fat. My 4 are used to getting fed a measured amount in separate bowls twice a day but they don't finish it up right away, and will snack away at it for hours. That means Meika is eating the other's food. So I'm having to monitor the intake of all 4 now and pick the bowls up. Tiki is picky and thin, Kayla is just right, and Karlee doesn't need to gain or she'll head toward fat. They love their Natural Balance (Ultra Original), and I tried NB low cal which is only 16% fewer calories and Meika loves it even more. She acts like it's candy and scarfs it up. I wish I could find a food she liked less. I'll be watching this thread, wish you all the luck, and hope I find a solution too. Will be getting green beans today.:) |

I feed my dogs Natural Balance Duck and Potato and for my show boys I add Vital Bison and Beef liver. Now, I also have a fat Yorkie who is on a diet. She gets 3 tablespoons of RD mixed with green beans twice a day. She has dropped 1 lbs in 2 weeks. With RD you do need a scipt and can only buy it from a vet but its fantastic. |
