After trying all of the NV flavors, I am thinking of asking my local feed store to special order me the Primal flavors. |

I read somewhere that feeding raw AND kibble is not a good idea  The argument is that raw food digests a lot faster than kibble, so feeding both can cause 'traffic jams' (the raw would be stuck in traffic) in their digestive system. Have you had this, or similar experience with Riley? I tried some raw medallions, but the fear of my fur-kids having tummy problems, worried me frozen :( |

Ahhh, so the problem is in the same meal, as in mixed? No problem if separated by the hours between breakfast and dinner? My problem is that I want to feed my babies better (they're not thriving with kibble and dislike it) but I'm afraid of doing the raw feeding or even the home cooking in a 'cold-turkey' way, especially with Nicky and his pancrititis issue of last year. |

I would not attempt a home-cooked diet without a consult with a vet nutrition specialist. Raw, I would research thoroughly before making that choice. The info about raw & kibble combo diets comes from internet forums, anecdotal evidence. |

I feed Riley raw in the mornings and then kibble at night..... So far, he hasn't had any problem with that. I also heard the same that it was not good to mix kibble With raw... [Wylie's Mom... "Anne"] posted on one of the raw threads about how it was fine to mix raw and kibble Together. She explained how the digestion worked and that it was fine. I will try and find it..... |
Okay.............. I Found It: I still haven't done it.... I feed raw one meal and kibble another meal, but this was a response from Wylie's Mom regarding feeding raw and kibble, Mixed together: ********************************************** Yes, it's fine. The stomach doesn't know the difference btwn raw and non-raw. It recognizes water, protein, carbs, fats, toxins (in a nutshell, that is). It churns, releases correlating enzymes for digestion, and pushes foods that are ready into the small intestine. It's really that simple. The tummy is a very smart organ. :) The theory of not mixing is like saying - don't eat raw veggie w/ cooked veggie bc they may have a differing rate of digestion....um, huh? __________________ |

The theory from people who say not to mix is that kibble digests slower and that keeps the raw in the digestive system longer, which reportedly is undesirable because of all the bacteria. |

Adding to above theory: if the bacteria is kept in the intestines longer, there is greater chance of the body absorbing more of it. I have no idea if there is any truth to this. |
