Spay questions My Tera will be 6 months old Monday. I have scheduled her to be spayed on Friday. I am a little worried, but I know this is a routine procedure. I trust that my vet will do a good job, yet I am still apprehensive. She is just so little. How long does it take for them to bounce back after a spay. Speaking of bouncing, do you need to keep them from running around after the spay? If so, how long? My vet will do procedure Friday morning, but wants to keep her overnight. Is this routine? Sorry for so many questions. I probably shouldn't be worried at all. She just seems so little. Thanks in advance for your wisdom and advice in this matter. |
Hey my Sassy was spayed a month ago, she is 6 lbs. She did great, she came home the same day. Your vet may want to keep her because she is so small. Sassy was groggy when she came home, she was in very little pain but I gave her the medicine for 3-4 days just to keep her comfortable. She had inside stitches so I didn't have to worry about her bothering them She would move around a lot but wasn't jumping too much. It is better if they don't/ after 2 days she was back to eating normally. knew she would be ok but I still worried until she came home. Good Luck. |
I ask and my Vet sometimes keeps them over night. She has an over night staff. The VT (vet technician) said it depends on age, weight, reaction to meds, and other factors. That keeping them over night is just as routine as sending them home the same day. It all depends on the doggie. |
If there isnt someone who is there overnight I would tell them you want to bring her home |
I think I will ask if I can take her home that evening. I'd feel better if she was with me. If there is an important reason to keep her, I'm sure he will let me know. He is very quick to call back, even on the weekend. (I found that out when Tera was sick one weekend. Vet called back within minutes from answering service.) |

My vet does not keep them over night because no one is there to watch them. I would not feel comfortable leaving them with no one to watch over them. This is a pretty standard procedure and with pain medication I feel that they are okay to come home where they can rest and feel more relaxed. I have heard of vets keeping them overnight and think this is okay if there is someone there to watch them and the owner is not able to take care of them after the surgery. Just make sure your vet is doing pre-op blood work proir to the surgery and your little girl will be sent home with pain meds to help manage the pain after the surgery. She will be fine.:) |
Maggie May was quiet the night of her spay and the next day. The day after that she was ack to being her terror little self. Good luck with your baby's procedure. I am sure that she'll do just great. As for leaving over night, it may just depend on the dog. I would definitely find out if someone will be there or not. |
My coco is getting spayed on Tuesday! So this thread is definately helping me as well! |
Fufu just got spayed. She is 3.3 and she was pretty out of it the night we got her home. She got to come home the same day though :) It's been a little over a week now and so far so good! Day 10 she gets to have a bath!! YEAH!! |
Mina was spay yesterday. She spent the day at the vets and then came home about 4pm. She was bouncing off the walls last night and zooming around the house this morning. The only way she was still was for me to hold her. She did sleep alot inbetween play moments today. The only issue that we have had is the pain meds messing her tummy up. She doesn't act like she is in pain so we will not be doing the meds tomarrow unless she acts like she is hurting. She has had a dose of Amforol and that has helped. Dinner will be chic and rice. |
