Will not eat white meat. 1 Attachment(s) So my little one who is 5 hates white meat at this point. No longer wants to eat chicken breast that I cook for him. Chicken legs or thighs are fine, even turkey leg. He loves veal, baked salmon and that but will not eat chicken breast. I am a bit worried. Things have a bit more fat on them. I take the skin off and take any excess fat but still. Should I be worried? I threated him with mean looks, mean words, lock up in bathroom, even told him I would get him a 9-5 job....nothing worked. He is a persistent little Yorkie. |
Some balanced and healthy homecooked meals can include dark meat. I'd buy a recipe with dark meat included (one formulated by a veterinary nutritionist). But you should just be able to put the food down, walk away, and he'll eat when he gets hungry. After 20 minutes, back in the fridge, try again later. No treats or chews if he won't eat his food. How about kibble? |
Give me a break! Do you actually think your Yorkie understands being locked in the bathroom is because he refused to eat white meat...? This post is not real... |
Well I wanted to stick to white meat of the chicken, but at this point I guess ill try to mix 50/50 see if it works. Cannt believe how picky this little doodle is. |

Now, regarding the white meat of chicken. How are you cooking the chicken? Try a few different methods and levels of internal temperature. Never, of course, use any sort of spices or added salt. Also, never feed "enhanced" chicken. You want the sodium content of your chicken to not exceed 100 mg per serving. Anything over that is likely "enhanced" or injected. |
I buy organic company, the best kind. And boil it for 15-20 min. I throw in baby carrots and broccoli, or cauliflower into the mix and thats it. |
Pick a high quality kibble, add to it with a bit of meat and veggies if you want...leave out the chicken...put the food down and tell your Yorkie it can eat or not...act unconcerned, takes about 3 days..once they realize you do not care if they eat, they eat... |

He gets baked salmon once a week, boiled veal once a week. those have carrots brocolli and cauliflower in them. Yogurt every morning with fruits from time to time. |
That isn't a balanced diet and can lead to very serious health issues over time. |
What should i add? |

If you want to home cook for your dog, a very affordable option is to purchase a $25 diet from Welcome to Pet Diets. I have used the chicken and brown rice with vegetables diet from this site but there are other options. |
I know nothing about cooked diets, however, you may wish to review this site: DogAware.com Articles: Homemade Cooked Diets for Dogs |
I cook for my boys, and free feed kibble to them that is a limited ingredient diet. I use the cooked food, fruits, and vegetables more as a treat than anything else. This way they do not get tired of their kibble. I have also found that this has stopped them from being picky eaters. I had a lot of problems getting Duke to eat because prior to coming to my home he was eating Purina Puppy Chow that I refused to feed him. Needless to say I won the battle of wills! |
