| fifeandshaffer | 06-28-2011 04:17 PM | Teeth cleaning issues I have a dilemma, my Cooper I rescued last year I say rescue because he was a stud dog that could not perform was two years old 10 baby teeth retained underweight, had constant eye infections and I'm his 4th owner in two years, nobody wanted him because he could not perform, anyway he was a mess, but is now turned into the super dog he was meant to be, he is almost four pounds now, knows how to be a dog and in my opinion has a life that most of my friends would die for..anyway his lack of performing and eye infections were caused by kcs and some dogs with kcs also have sjogrens syndrome, he doesn't make tears or saliva, he has fluid trouble everywhere hence not able to perform as a stud. His eyes are good with daily drops I brush his teeth daily I floss daily yes I floss he doesn't mind a bit, I took him to the dog dentist at the university of pa, I use oravet once a week, I use cet toothpaste, I use biotine for dogs water additive, and maintenance gel, daily, I use cet chews, I try flossies greenies hymalaya chews antlers, Cooper just doesnt like to chew,,, shaffer my other dog always started his chews for him and he would often eat some of shaffers but since shaffer died last month he won't chew anything. I also use petzlife and some other algea stuff in his food forget the name not sure it does much but I use it, he eats good quality food, and raw, but his teeth are still bad. I took Cooper to the vet yesterday she says he will need a cleaning every year, it's been almost a year since his last cleaning, I did his pre op blood work yesterday for his cleaning next month, however I'm worried, Cooper is my third yorkie two other shaffer and fife both died from collapsed trachea, bad breeding. I'm so worried that Cooper teeth cleaning and being under once a year is just a bad idea. Ct is so awful and I know yorkies are prone Cooper is so small, and I'm not sure I can handle another ct, my vet says teeth cleaning won't cause ct and I love love love my vet, I asked about awake cleaning she said not a good idea, I don't care about the 600.00 to clean his teeth but I'm not sure I can live with myself if he has trcahea issues. Any thoughts helpful, sorry for the long post |
