Ride home after spay?
 
ZoE is 6 1/2 months old and gets spayed & double microchipped on Thursday. Thankfully, all her baby teeth came out on their own so she doesn't need any extractions. It's been so long since I've had a puppy, I don't remember how I got my last yorkie home after her spay. Will ZoE be able to sit in her carseat to ride home? Or should I take her crate to get her home in? I drop her off at 9am & get to pick her up 3:30pm. I scheduled my own root canal dental appointment for the same morning, so I won't be sitting at home being a worried mess....and then we can take a few days to recouperate together....I'm thinking lots of movies & couch time :)

The carseat is fine if it just requires her to wear a small harness (nothing over her incision).

Sassy was spayed last week and I just hooked her into the largest car seat I have and she slept all the way home. I will pray everything goes well with Zoe. Why are they double micro chipping? I should have Sassy done an forgot.

Gabby is getting microchipped soon & I am also curious, Why double microchipping??

& I hope your furbaby recovers quickly!

Safety.
I hate having to do this, and don't understand why America hasn't got on board with the rest of the world....
I'm a British citizen currently living in the States. As America has not converted to the ISO standard microchip, ZoE is getting the Home Again chip for America & the AVID ISO chip for Europe. That way, hopefully, she's protected while in the States & when going home to England, & our holiday home in Spain.

Hmm. Doesn't the ResQ chip cover both? It's universal. That's what E's vet office uses.

I don't know.

Our vet here in the States was kind enough to contact the vet I use in England and together this was their recommendation in ZoE's best interest. My vet here knows that it is real sore spot with me that America is not onboard with universal microchipping, which results in many pets already microchipped having to be microchipped again upon entering another country, so I'm sure if he felt one chip would be the best option, he would have recommended that.

The scanner at my vets picks up everything (supposed to be universal)except the international chip, so I had to have my Biewer mc'd again too!

I would just put her in whatever she can be in and be the most comfortable she is going to be sore

I asked my vet about this, he said the ResQ is a 15 digit 134 Khz microchip just like the Avid chip used for years in the UK. Unfortunately, living outside Flint, Michigan, many shelters & vets in the surrounding areas, do not have the newest universal scanners, as the predominant chip sold around here was the 10 digit 125 Khz Home Again chip.

*I did find out that if a dog is double chipped it's recommended that the the ISO chip is inserted to the left of the other chip.
