Drinking too much? We have a Standard sized Yorkshire Terrier who has been spayed, her name is Lucy. She eats a lot normally, but previously hasn't been drinking lots. In the past few days we noticed that she has been drinking more than normal, about 3 small trays [10cmx10cm about] of water; she hasn't had any weight loss, she is as active as normal - we haven't noticed anything else about her. I am very worried, I have read places that she could have Diabetes or Liver/Kidney problems..but I'm not sure, does anyone have any suggestions? |
I would just watch her for now.......see if any thing else changes.....most likely she is just extra thristy! |
Thank you very much, we will keep an eye on her - if shes no better by friday we'll take her to the vets :) |
Liz My Yorkie was diagnoised with cushings disease, 4 years ago My Yorkie tilly had started drinking way to much water like she couldn't get enough which gave me a red flag that's not normal..So I took her to her vet and explained her(excessive water drinking). He ran test and she has cushings I am not saying your yorkie has it, but it does go unnoticed It is treatable, please check at the address below for complete symptons. This disease affects yorkies & other small breeds. Good luck http://www.marvistavet.com/html/cushing_symptoms.html :aimeeyork |
I've noticed my 13 year old yorkie has been drinking more than usual in the last couple of days. His appetite is very changeable - he doesn't want to eat some days and I have to coax him to eat something but he's fine today and has eaten his food. I put a lot of it down to his age as he has slowed down in the last 6 months - he doesn't want to get up in the mornings etc which is understandable at 13 years old. But I will have to watch him closely incase the drinking problem is something bigger like diabetes. |
just one question--what's a "standard" size yorkshire terrier? |
