Leg troubles My yorkie, who is going on 11 years old, has recently been having problems with her leg. Sometimes her right back leg will almost be stuck as if she is holding it up. When this happens and she tries to walk, but goes backwards. She also has trouble getting up steps, I thought that maybe her age may be the reason. Maybe it was a cramp? Any insight is greatly appreciated. |
Sounds like it may be the joint problems that Yorkies do sometimes get. Did she jump up and down a lot in the past? Surgery may be an option, but it can be costly... You can try to massage it out if it is cramps. |
After having a vet rule out surgery to correct any obvious problems, or because of her advanced age, you may want to consider consulting a vet who uses "alternative therapies" such as massage and acupuncture. Most of them seem to be located in Florida, but I'm sure an internet search might turn up someone near you. Also, they have drugs that can help with arthritic pain. It's so hard, this growing old stuff! :( |
There's plenty of alternative therapy up here in Washington! :) But yes, look in the yellow pages if surgery is out of the question. Good luck! |
Thanks guys! I will check into it. |
Hi, My Bear had the same problem but it was his left back leg. He is 13 years old..he was limping and couldnt put any weight on it. I took him to vet and they said he dislocated his knee cap, and iI had 2 options..surgery or wait for it to pop back in. He is doing better now. How long has this been going on with your Yorkie? |
Yoda's knee popped out a few times, but it always popped back in within a day. He is young (still just 2 years and 3 months or so) however... |
