Jessica's teeth I cleaned Jessica's teeth today. I am in panic - she has only few left, and she is only 7.5 yo. They pul over 7 teeth. Usually, I don't let to do it, but some of them are about to gone, and for protection from infection, the vet decided to do it. Yes, she does have bad genetic (she was born in horrible puppy mill), but I also had Polinka, who was rescued from same mill (but they are obviously from different lines), and Polinka had good teeth (although I fed them same), and never bad mouth smell. Jessica does. A month ago I gave her gum antibiotic that killed bad smell, but... one month later and .... here we go again. She doesn't eat dog food (only likes it as treats), I cook for her. Chicken, vegetables, etc. Anyway, I want to know is any of you had same experience (dog loosing teeth so early). Also, I am just wondering... I want my baby live as long as possible. Do you know any yorkie who live very long and lost teeth so early. I am sorry if my question looks kind of stupid, but I am just want to know if any connection between long life and loosing teeth at 7 yo. All responses will be appreciated. PS: I professionally clean her teeth every year. Would love to do it more often, but because of anestesia-(((( |
Pixie had seven teeth pulled at 3 years of age, she is from a good breeder but is small and has bad teeth. Their life span depends on many factors but having bad teeth and not taking care of them would probably have a far more negative effect on their health than puling them. I have Nikki who is a rescue and estimated to be 17+ years and he had such rotten teeth when I met him that they all had to be pulled and gum work done. That was almost 3 years ago and he is doing great. He never has bad breath and he eats soft food and some small hard treats. |
another Jessica's issue that might be a reason for bad smell is her stomack. Last month she was diagnosed with possible enteritis. Symptoms were: stomack pain, unformed black stool. Vet was thinking she has a pancreatitis, but test came negative. She did CBC/giardia/lipase/fecal. She was under treatment for a week, all symptoms are gone. BUT. yesterday, after I made an appointment for teeth cleaning, she had some symptoms again. Actually, from time to time (seldom issue) she vomites (yellow foam). I try to give her healthy food only, but still guess the smell can be from stomack. Same time, there is never smell after dental work. But only for a month or so, than - again. |
