First vet visit Phoebe had her first appt today. She's just a smidge over 12 weeks old, and I've only had her since Monday. I brought a stool sample and they found coccidia. I got the medicine for that and also another round of worming meds just in case, since the breeder didn't specify which one she gave. I have 3 kids and wouldn't want to risk infection for any of us with anything. She goes back in 2 weeks for more shots, so I'll bring another sample and make sure she's better. Other than that, the vet said she looked good. She weighs 2.6 lbs. She's more relaxed now and becoming playful. Our cat, Chloe, still hisses at her, so she'll give a little bark back at her. I feel bad for Chloe since she's been an only for so long, and now she's got this spunky puppy trying to check her out. Oh, and I guess I just assumed that dew claws are always removed shortly after birth, but we just discovered that she still has hers. Should we get them removed at the time of her spaying? I'll have to do a little research, I guess. The vet says she's not too concerned since she's a toy dog and won't be out in the forest getting snagged on stuff, like a big hunting-type dog might be. |
Phoebe sounds adorable - CONGRATS on your new kiddo! I still had my kitty cat (RIP Einstein) when we got Wylie...and Einstein wasn't too thrilled, to say the least. However, as a discriminating feline - it did give her someone to look down on, and she enjoyed that :D. My vet says the exact same thing about the dews -- that it's not a minor surgery and that they shouldn't be worried about unless it's a hunting dog. You'll have to trim the dews, just like the other claws. |
