Iverheart Plus Anyone else use this? Just want to confirm this is a good brand for heartworm meds as I never read about it. I guess it's supposed to be the generic brand of Heartguard, right? Anyways Jackson has been on it for almost 2yrs now with no effects but just wanted to double check. I get it from my vet (well, our spay/neuter clinic we go to) with a 6 month supply for $19... so yeah, super good deal! Just want to make sure it's not too good to be true. |
What does your regular vet say about it? |
Never heard of it. Been using interceptor for years, heartguard before that. It's made by virbac, and I do like their toothpaste. Not sure on the heartworm prevention tho. |

I just got it for Princess for the first time earlier this month. I started going to my mom's vet & he recommended it. I was just going to do the one month VS. the six month because I was a little worried about trying something new. He assured me that it is safe, he'd never seen either adverse reactions or heartworm +. I do trust him as my mom's been using him for over 20 years & she's never had any problems at all. Princess was a little itchy for about 2 days after but it could've been from her parvo/distemper as well. I can't find my invoice but I know the price was a little less than one months supply of Interceptor. He also sold me Frontline ($20-seems expensive), but he said I'd only need to repeat it in August if I wanted. |
It's probably just fine. I prefer Merial and Novartis to Virbac, so automatically their heartworm preventatives will win with me. Virbac is the company that has decided it's okay to put xylitol in a dog tooth cleaning product. I do use their toothpaste, but I'd personally just rather go elsewhere for heartworm if possible. I only pay like $55 for 12 months of Interceptor. It covers more parasites than ivermectin/pyrantel (there is nothing wrong with iver/pyr products by any means, but we all have our preferences). This could be important for a dog who is outside a lot, esp. if fecals aren't done often. It's really up to you. |
I use it and its worked great so far. I order mine from 1-800-Pet-Meds. |
I didn't know Novartis make animal products. I was wondering about this too because when I was shopping around, 1800petmeds recommends this in repalcement of heartguard plus and it is cheaper. Knowing me though, I will probably stick to what the vet tells me to use. |
I personally wouldn't use it due to past recalls and quality control issues. Interceptor is my top choice in heartworm medication. |
