Silky loosing hair I have a silky that is about 1 1/2 years old and is healthy but loosing her hair except on her head. We have tried different shampoos, switched to several different dog foods including grain free and have taken her to 3 different vets with no help or changes. Anyone experience a similar situation or have any suggestions? Thanks, Peggy |
Have you spoken with her breeder? Is there a chance she was blue born? " Dogs that are born blue (silver or gray) carry the dilute gene of dd, which should NOT be in the Yorkshire Terrier breed because it causes the "Blue born puppy." It is a genetic mutation in color. It has been proven that the blue born puppies do have skin problems and the hair does not grow." Parti yorkies - PARTI YORKSHIRE TERRIER CLUB |
Welcome to YT. There are many things that can cause hair loss: thyroid disorders, Cushing's disease, fleas and other pests, skin problems. I would visit a canine dermatologist. |
Macy has been checked for Thyroid, negitive she has also had steroid shots. I'm really at a point of dispare. She has no hair on her ears, belly, underside, thighs, and a big spot on the middle of her back. what hair she does have is very very thin. |
Have your Vet. run the necessary tests for Alopecia. Causes of Hair Loss (Alopecia) in Dogs This isn't just a human condition. |
You said her Thyroid has been checked, did she have a full panel or just the norm ? She needs a Full panel & I would suggest checking for cushings as well. Hoping your vet can find answers soon. |
