Hot to the Touch My family adopted a 9 month old Yorkie a few days ago. We just got him groomed today because the previous owners never had. Now that his mounds of fur are gone, I've noticed he is extremely hot to the touch. Is this normal? I read their normal temp is between 100-102, which might be around where he is, however he just seems extremely hot, and I'm a little concerned. Please advise! |
Welcome to YT and congratulations on your new addition to the family. You are correct that canine normal body temps are higher than that of humans. I always think my boys feel so warm, which is nice during the winter. It would be a good idea to do a wellness check with your vet since you just acquired this pup, and the previous owner never had him groomed. The vet could tell you if his temperature is normal. |
Thank you Kristin, much appreciated! :) |
You are welcome. The wellness check is a great way to establish a relationship with a vet (if you don't already have one for other pets). A good relationship with your vet's office is very helpful: you can call with questions and concerns, and you can get an appointment quickly when necessary. Post pictures when you have time. Everyone loves pictures. :) |
Hi and Welcome to YT! When bad mats are removed, heat can come from the blood returning to the areas (mats that are bad enough to cut off the circulation)... but definitely have the vet take a look at him. |

I know that Hot Rod has a warm spot between his should blades on his back. I am always surprised by it when I'm stroking him. Welcome to YT and congrats on your new addition. |
