It would be hard to tell just by weight if your babe is too thin since Yorkies come in all shapes and sizes based on a lot of different factors. Have you had him to the vet recently? It might be a good idea to check him for parasites as they can rob the little guys of their nutrition and make them appear thin or your vet may tell you he is perfectly fine. Best to have him checked though. Good luck with him. Sorry, I wanted to also welcome you to YT.....Welcome |
thanx, i took him for his routine check up vet said his healthy, but his my baby and seens a bit too thin his about 4pounds and i give him 3 meals a day but he only eats in the morning about half the amount he suppose to eat and the rest of the day he'll sniff and walk away he is very picky with food, i don't want him loosing anymore weight |
That's great news your vet says he is healthy. I would trust his judgement. My vet tells me he would rather see them a little too thin than too heavy. I am sure your baby is very active and at that age is still going through a lot of changes. We are all picture crazy here. Feel free to share pics anytime! |
If you can see his ribs and spine... he's too thin. One way to increase their weight if needed is to increase the amount of treats you give... but not so many that he stops eating his meals. Or add cottage cheese or chicken broth to entice him to eat his meals. |
I was concerned about my Shih Tzu being too thin. So I bought a super high Protein kibble and mixed it in with their regular food. it only took a month for my dog to look better. I gave them Evo red meat, small bites. I have also used a high protein canned food that worked well. remember that the smaller the dog the less they can eat with such tiny tummies. You could try giving the canned on the third meal. I have not seen a dog not eat canned food . Use it for supplemental feedings. I would not reccomend feeding all meals canned. |
He is still a baby and probably quite active. If he is healthy he will gain eventually. I have a one year old that is still pretty skinny, but I'm sure she'll make up for it later. |
