life's abundance My new rescue (Tink) has been having soft stool. The vet has ruled out worms, bacteria, & structural problems, she feels it's food related. Tink was on Science diet puppy when she came to me. I gradually switched her to Taste of the wild, & the stool is firmer but still softish. I heard that Life's Abundance was a good choice & gave it to her 50% for breakfast. She wouldn't eat her dinner (probably upset stomach), and had REALLY soft poop tonight. Also, she vomited (bile) this afternoon. She had a similar reaction when I first swithced her to TOTW. Should I keep up with the switch to see how she does, or am I better off sticking with TOTW? I really wanted to try the Life's Abundance, but am afraid of makeing matters worse! |
How long has she been on TOTW? |
Bumping this for you... Cooper used to eat Science Diet and had very soft stool. I switched his food a few times and ultimately ended up with Life's Abundance. He has a very sensitive system and does very well on the Life's Abundance, as does Max. |
Are you feeding both dry and wet? All my pets (both dog and cats) are on Life's Abundance and are doing very well. The reason I switched the cats over was because I had one kitten with diarrhea and horrific gas. The vet ruled out all other causes and decided it was food related. Once I made the switch, Figaro had no more "digestive issues". |
Tink has been on TOTW for about 6 weeks now. I wasn't sure what to do so stopped the Lifes Abundance, (after the one meal) and her stool seems firmer than ever before. I think I'm going to stick with TOTW a few more weeks & see what happens. I only feed dry food to all my guys because of the teeth issues yorkies have. |
You may want to try a Limited Ingredient Diet. They have helped Taycie immensely. Sometimes the dry foods have so many ingredients in them its hard to really find what is causing her stomach to be upset. It also helps to try them on a unique protein source as well. I know for instance Taycie can NOT tolerate fish or fish oil of any kind. I really have to watch my labels as it is in alot of different foods. Natural Balance has an entire line of LID formulas that have done wonders for Taycie. I recently was feeding the new LID formulas that Nature's Variety Instinct just launched. Pinnacle also has a Duck and Potato and I believe Go! has one too. Both are also considered LID formulas. I really like Nature's Variety alot. Sadly, for us about a week ago I started getting the dreaded mucousy stools. I was so bummed out! I took it back and was talking with the local pet store owner. She thought it could be not necessarily the protein but the fat content might be the issue. So I put her back on Natural Balance on she does really wonderful on it. Her poop firmed up and went right back to normal. And it is lower in fat. Good Luck! I know how stressful food issues and finding the right food can be. |
Thanks so much for the advice! I've never heard of LID food before. Does it only come in canned? How long does it take to know if it's working? I'm assuming that you start with a food containing minimal ingredients & see how it's tolerated before adding another ingredient. That way you can pinpoint what is not being tolerated? This is a great idea, I never would have though about it! What ingredients are the safest to start with? I have heard that chicken can be difficult for many pups. Should I start with fish, fowl, beef, etc? e h |
