Zyrtec question Sooo...if a Yorkie has seizures and a vet wants to diagnose 'idiopathic epilepsy' and start phenobarbitol but they start taking Zyrtec for allergies and the seizures stop...is that a coincidence or is it safe to assume it wasn't epilepsy after all? If it was indeed epilepsy would Zyrtec have had any affect on the seizures? |
Anyone have a guess? |
No clue, just wanted to give you a bump, and good luck figuring this out!! |
How often were the seizures before the Zyrtec? If the seizures all of the sudden just stopped completely after the Zyrtec, then I suppose an allergy could have been triggering the seizures. |
Yep, the seizures stopped as soon as the Zyrtec was given. |
I cant say for sure, cause i am not a veterinarian. however i do know that allergies can cause seizures, i am a vet tech, and have known of this, so i would think that yes, the zyrtec could be what helped stop the seizures. |
Does your dog have any other symptoms that point towards allergies? Usually seizures caused by allergies, are from Food allergies. SO i would try a food trial, and see if that helps? I would bring it up to your veterinarian also. Also, it could still be epilepsy. Just because the seizures stopped for now, may not have anything to do with the zyrtec at all. |
also, no if it is epilepsy, the zyrtec would not have helped, sorry it took so many messages for me to say everything :) |
