Dry or wet food? Which do you all prefer? I currently feed Foxy dry food only, but I am thinking of adding some wet food into her diet. Shes a tiny thing at 4.4 lbs and could stand to gain some weight. The dry food she is on is Natural Balance Limited ingriedents. Can anyone recommend a good quality wet or moist food for her? Thanks! |
I don't feed my babies can food at all...I home cook for them while I'm cooking our dinner...they get that one meal and the rest of the day they nibble on there kibble, that I have down for them 24/7. I feed Wellness super5mix small breed for Bella and Wellness super5mix puppy for Harley & Ivy who are 9 mos old...they are a 5 star food...I'm not sure if Natural Balance is a good quality food or not...I will look and see if I can find that link that shows all the food from 1 star to 5 star foods so you can see which would be best for your babies. My vet says if you have your dog on a good quality kibble, thats all they need...the kibble helps keep there teeth clean...with canned food tarter can be a problem and they will need dental cleaning more often. |
Here is the link I was talking about...good luck on your search.:) Dog Food Analysis - Reviews of kibble |
I am interested in a quality wet food as well. Mina gets kibble and a puppy wet food. She prefers real apples, baby carrot sticks (I cut them length wise to make them smaller) these are a good chew food for the teeth, boiled chic, greenbeans and a tiny piece of cheese now and then. Sense she is only 5 months we haven't tried many other things yet. The softer foods get mixed with her kibble, but I leave dry kibble out for her all day. |
I've always mixed canned food with Jackson's dry food. The main reason is simply because Jackson won't eat just dry food by itself. Second reason, I like the added moisture it adds, sometimes I think he's not drinking enough water... but who knows! I don't mind giving him something tasty, he enjoys his food so much more and it's better than seeing dry food sit out for days without being touched. Natural Balance has their own canned food too. I use it a lot but I buy a variety ranging from NV Instinct to Canidae, among a few others. Dry food does not really help teeth that much... it'd be like us brushing our teeth with pretzels. I do like him to crunch though for his jaw and stuff, but other than that, dry food is not really "better" than wet food, per say. Teeth brushing and oral care helps teeth! |
Thanks guys! What do you all think of Merricks wet foods, like the grammys pot pie, turducken, etc? |

Ingredient-wise, they are fine. But Merrick as a company makes me a bit nervous these days. I have fed their canned food in the past with no problems. |
Ok, thanks. I was just wondering..I haven't experimented with this food yet, so I was just curious. |
I've been feeding Riley 1 1/2 Nuggets of Primal RAW in the mornings and 1/8 cup of Acana Kibble, at night. He has been doing really really Great on that. :) |
