Yorkie with UTIs My Yorkie has been having urinary tract infections on and off since last August (August 2010) -- I rush her to the vet when I see a spot of blood in her urine (she uses wee-wee pads so I notice it right away). They do a culture, put her on antibiotics for about three weeks -- and ten days later do another culture -- and she's fine. A couple of weeks later -- she has another urinary tract infection. Oh -- and she's had x-rays and there are no visible stones -- and she's had a sonogram -- and she does have a little calcification of the kidneys. She's 8 years old. She's (of course) an indoor dog, the house is air-conditioned 24/7, she gets bathed every 5 - 7 days and drinks bottled water. Now the vet put her on a special diet for kidney issues -- Hills K/D (I find it repulsive) --most of the time and I prepare the mostly rice with chicken diet for her as well. She's had fresh cooked organic chicken and other good vegetables / sweet potatoes most of her life -- so I don't understand why she keeps getting these infections. I am taking her to a specialist in a couple of weeks (as soon as she is off the currrent series of antibiotics). Has anyone else had this experience?? Please let me know -- |
Hi and Welcome to YT! Has your baby ever had a Bile acid Test to check liver function? Recurring UTIs can be indicative of a Liver Shunt. Maybe a nutritionist could help with a home cooked diet... Sorry your pup is having this problem... best of luck with the specialist. |
