Food causing bladder issues I switched Mylee from Science Diet to Natural Balance months ago. I researched it for months. I thought I had made a good choice,but now Mylee has protien in her urine and the ph is high. The vet told me I caught it just in time, it did not develop into a UTI. Now she is on a prescription dog food which is made by Science Diet. The vet said that she may have to stay on it indefinitely if it does not clear up. Has anyone had any issues like this? I have to get this cleared up! She is peeing everywhere, which is causing problems between me and my boyfriend. Im also wondering if it could be the treats? |
Has she been xrayed and/or ultrasounded to check for stones? |
There was no blood. The vet said to give the food 5-7 days. If there is no change then he will do further testing. |
What kind of treats are you giving? You may be giving decent food, but if the treats are garbage then that's not going to do any good. If you must give treats, just give tiny pieces of plain boiled chicken, hard boiled egg white, carrot, various fruits, the crunchy parts on lettuce. If you eat with her, she'll think she's getting the best food in the world! Please no Milk Bones or Pupperoni type stuff. |

My Teddy had issues with protein and infection and crystals forming in his urine. After much testing and specialists, we decided to add liquid to his diet. I add water to his food or give him home made diluted chicken broth (don't use store bought unless it has no onions and walmart does make one without onion). I have found this has kept all bladder issue away once he was treated for the infection. He is on his regular food. |

Food can play a roll, but if you're using NB then probably not. As was said though, treats matter too. The main thing to do for urinary tract health is more water. Wet the kibble, use some canned food, very low sodium plain chicken broth, something like that. Raising water intake usually helps alot. |
Thanks for all the wonderful replies! I was giving her Bil Jac small dog training treats. Main ingredient is chicken liver. Now she is on prescription treats as well. Her kibble and treats are prescription science diet. |
