How do you store your dry kibble? I'd mentioned that I need to run across town one evening soon, to get ZoE food because she was running low. My Mum & Dad, who adore ZoE, were across town getting parts for their lawn mower and decided to stop at Petsmart and buy her food. They bought her a huge bag of Blue Buffalo Puppy. It was really sweet of them, but I've always bought small bags to keep the food fresh. What is the best way to store it to keep it fresh? Right now, I've poured some into a glass jar that has a tight seal and that is what we're using. The big bag is rolled over & taped at the top & in a plastic storage container. How long will it stay fresh this way? Is there a better way to store it? Thanks :) |
I've always bought the largest bag of NB food and just divide it into gallon size ziploc baggies for storage. I think we get about 12 bags from the big bag. With three a ziploc will last me about a week. It stays fresh and I've never had a problem. |
I buy the little bags, but I pour them in a rubbermaid like container with a snap on lid. |
I pour some (like enough for a week or so) into a small airtight container that I keep out for easy feeding- then I put the rest still in the bag into one of these (but smaller) Buy.com - The Vittles Vault Airtight Pet Food Storage Container (Holds 50+ pounds - 20"H x 14"D x 14"W) |

I use my food saver vacuum system. It works great. I buy the biggest bag and I divide it up into smaller bags and vacuum seal them. I save so much money this way. It's worth the price of the food saver machine! |
I use those upright tubberware containers designed for cereal. Works perfectly for dog food too! |
I buy 5lb bags so I just leave it in the bag since it has a ziplock. |
