Hacking My 2 1/2 pound Yorkie has been hacking almost every morning when she wakes up. I have read that this is normal in small breeds and especially in Yorkies but I have also been told it could be very serious. That it could be some tracheal dissorder that could be fatal. Has anyone had this problem with their yorkie and should I be worried? |
Well it's definatly not normal. If it's coughing, a trip to the vet is in order for sure. Could be a collapsed treachea or even kennel cough. The other possibility (what you may have read as "normal") is reverse sneezing. This isn't a "hacking" though, it almost seems more like hyperventilation (it's not though). Alice does the reverse sneezing and so does my Beagle, when Alice does it, it almost sounds like honking lol. If it is indeed COUGHING that your dog is doing though, make a vet appt. If you can't seem to tell if it's maybe reverse sneezing instead, go on Youtube and look it up - I guarantee you can find a video of a dog doing it then you can see if it's that or actual coughing. |
Here's a YouTube video I found of a Puggle reverse sneezing - if it's like this, I wouldn't worry, if it's more of a cough, call your vet.: |
I got a friend here that just got a yorkie from Kerrie Engelmann pocketbookpus and her yorkie was hacking for a month and the X-ray showed large hert. hope your yorkie does not have but talk to your vet. |
I would talk to your vet. If it's similar to the video posted I wouldn't worry. Taycie does this on occasion.. but its a reverse sneeze for sure. |
Does your pup wear a collar or harness? A harness is better so there is no irritation of the trachea. Hope all is OK! |
