Tallulah's in heat! I had really hoped to have her spayed before her first heat but with her colitis issues our new vet believes (and I agree) that we need to try to resolve them before she has surgery. So my poor baby is wearing rompers and being watched like a hawk. I've heard enough horror stories that I'm not going to take any risks with her. |
Good luck. I think you're a smart enough owner to do right by Tallulah. I've seen some pretty dumb owners, that purposely neglected their female in heat. I've seen owners take a female in heat to a dog park. |
Odd think is that I was going to take her out walking Sunday afternoon but something made me change my mind. It was probably more laziness but I'm going to tell myself it was intuition since I first realized she was in heat last night. |
When our dogs are in heat, we put diapers on them and keep them indoors except to go potty. We watch them very closely. I'm sure things will be fine. Just keep her inside and watch her closely. |
I've been reading up on the heat cycle, and have one question. How do I know when she is no longer fertile? She has such a small amount of discharge now that when it goes clear I'm not sure I will even be able to tell she's having it. Or does it get more copious? I'm not even 100 percent sure that it didn't start before Sunday and that I simply failed to notice it earlier. T needs grooming, but I'm not setting up an appointment until I'm SURE nothing can happen. |
