Worried new mommy... My husband and I got Indy yesterday. He's a one year old yorkie. He pooped in the house last night (he always pees outside, but not poop). I realized when I picked up his poop that he has worms. I know that's pretty easy to treat, and I'm taking him to the vet tomorrow, but this afternoon he threw up. He hasn't eaten much since yesterday afternoon when we got him, and now he has thrown it up! Two questions: 1. Do worms cause vomitting? And 2. Should I feed him again or wait a few hours for his tummy to calm down? Thanks in advance, I'm new to this and I'm pretty worried! |
So he vomited the little bit of food he ate today or was it yellow and foamy? Worms don't typically cause vomiting, but if the dog is really heavily infested with them for a long time it can for sure lead to that. What did you see in the poop? Since he's one yr. old, I wouldn't be too worried, especially since you're going to the vet tomorrow - take a stool sample with you. Is he drinking water today and keeping that down? If he's drinking and keeping that down, you can try feeding him a little bit of food in about an hour if it was food he vomited up. If it was yellow and foamy, feed him a small amount of food now, and if he keeps it down, a small amount about an hour later. As long as he's acting otherwise normal, it may just be some nervousness from the adjustment of moving to a new home and a new owner. Also, is the food different than what he was eating at the previous owner? That can cause a bit of digestive upset too, usually diarrhea more so than vomiting though. |
Welcome to YT Worms can make them sick to their tummy. Is he eating the same food or did you change food ? as that can cause vomiting as well. Hope all goes well at the vet tomorrow. Please update after his vet visit. |
Congratulations on getting Indy. The vet should be able to give him a thorough exam tomorrow and get him feeling better. Stress can make them throw up and worms. Please keep us posted. |
Congrats on the new addition! For a year old dog, anything new is stressful...new envirornment, new food, new people. The worm thing is easy to treat, the rest is just time...he will straighten out when he gets used to his new home. Enjoy! |
