Just found this thread. I have Trupanion for Gizmo simply because of our lovely $390 ER visit at 4 in the morning and because Gizmo is a BYB/Puppymill rescue. I have I think 90% coverage with a $250 deductible and I haven't had to file anything yet. But from looking at what everyone has posted, it looks like if I do file something, I should be prepared to wait a little bit. I had a long debate on whether or not I should have gotten him insurance, but after seeing some really sad stories (i.e. people not being able to keep up with the medical expenses of Yorkies and having to give them up to a rescue) I decided that a simple savings account probably wouldn't be enough if something really terrible happened. Besides, it's only $22.00 a month which means one less "date night" with the husband! :p |
Gizmo Hello: First, so sorry to hear about the ER visit; hope he is feeling better now. You did the right thing about insurance, it can be very costly to own any dog if it gets sick. I had my troubles from my first claim as he was a rescue, but after telling them all I knew about his history (which wasn't much!) I did get approved - finally. Next time it should be easier. I got the zero deductible so monthly cost is more. You are right, it is just the cost of one dinner a month. Best of luck with your claim, and get well soon Gizmo! |
I took Riley in for his recheck, of his ears, this morning. The Vet said they look much much better..... Said he looks like a new dog..... She said she could see a teeny bit of fluid left.... She took him in the back and they cleaned his ears, again..... and said she thinks she got it all. She said she wanted to send me home with some VIRBAC CORIUM - 20 EAR CLEANER FOR DOGS and wants me to use it once a week. I asked if I could get it online? She said more thank likely. They were going to charge me $21 for 8oz. I found it online for $6.09 + $495 shipping. Hopefully this will take care of the problem. =) So, I will be filing another Claim with Trupanion. I didn't think about it until right after I paid the vet, but I suppose they would have reimbursed me 90% of the $21. I'll have to wait and see if they reimburse for the $6.09. |
RileyDC Glad to hear Riley is doing well. Good idea to use something once a week to keep him clear. Yes I am sure TP would pay 90% of the $21 Vet's cost, or the $6.09. (I hope u did not pay 495 dollars for shipping LOL!!!) But I know what u meant! With medication it is probably less trouble if you save things up until it is a decent sum worth all the paperwork and Vet info etc. As I get paid back 90% I tend to get meds from the Vet instead of going online. It is possible that they would not pay for meds that are not from the Vet, but who knows??? If the Vet prescribes them it is probably OK. Good Luck! |
