Dangerous foods I was looking at some of the Yorkie recipes and I noticed garlic as an ingredient in some of them. I've heard that garlic is very bad for dogs. Can someone tell me what foods are bad for Yorkies? I've looked online but a lot of sites are confusing because one will say that something is safe while another site says the same thing is dangerous. My little Chloe wants people food and the only thing that I've given her is a few bites of baked chicken and a small bite of cheese. I'd like to give her a treat every once in a while but so far I've just given her doggie food. Thanks :) :aimeeyork:animal-pa:animal36 |
I know it can really be confusing. I know one thing that is bad though. Onions. Kayla ate just a small piece of just the peeling that accidently fell to the floor and she was sick (excuse the pun) as a dog. It took like a week for her to get to feeling better. I'm just glad it wasn't worse than what it was because it was a really small piece. |
Garlic is Okay in SMALL amounts. Too much can be toxic, and very harmful. So i personally dont let my dogs have any. I work at a veterunary clinic and have seen the bad things garlic can do. SCARY!!! Also, you can give human food for treats. Most fruits are safe. GRAPES and RAISINS TOXIC!! ALso most vegetables are safe. ONIONS TOXIC. ALso eggs, yogurt , and meats are good safe foods you can give. Just be sure they dont have too much salt on them. Also, XYLITOL is toxic. So careful about that too. Just try things in small amounts to be sure your little one doesnt get an upset stomach from them. |
Thanks for letting me know! Glad that your baby is better! |
Also, avoid FATTY foods. And Salty foods. Chocolate is TOXIC, MAcadamia Nuts are very toxic!!! Caffine is bad also |

My dogs love small carrots for treats, and bananas. |
For treats (every time she goes potty & when I'm training her new commands) I use tiny pieces of cooked carrots, cooked green beans, frozen peas, apple, cheese, and boiled chicken. (everything plain & unseasoned in any way). |
My breeder told me to use frozen as far as the vegetables are concerned because they do not have the salt content that canned does. We give ours baby carrots for snacks and they love them. They like cheerios but no prcessed cheese. Cottage cheese is okay as long as it is low fat. |

I buy the frozen veggies. But I cook the carrots & green beans and then cut them into small pieces. Peas she just gets frozen. I scatter them on the floor and she loves hunting for them. |
Alice loves little pieces of apple and banana I think everyone covered pretty much all the "don'ts" |
