Trifexis I went to the vet today to get some flea treatment and they don't carry the Frontline anymore. They gave me a Trifexis pill to give her and she threw up her food this evening. I read that throwing up is a side effect, but I was wondering if anyone else has used the Trifexis. It kills and prevents fleas, heartworms, and intestinal worms. It's a monthly treatment. The vet said it was a good medicine and better than the Frontline because it protects against more than fleas and the cost is about the same. My pup is old enough to take it and weights a little over 4 pounds. I don't know if it's the pill or if it's something else. She did get a hold of my daughter's pen and chewed a couple feathers before I could get it away from her. So I thought that could have been it too. Does anyone else use the Trifexis? |
If you decide to go back to using frontline,it can be found at Petsmart and Petco. |
You might want to call the vet and see if you need to redose. I know the Comfortis box says if they vomit within 30 minutes, they have to be dosed again. I don't know about Trifexis though. Also, I thought they had to at least weigh 5 pounds. Because my vet weighed my Chi at least 4-5 times trying to make sure she exceeded 5 lbs (she does by about 4 ounces) when we were trying to get the Comfrotis. |
I told the vet how much she weighed, and her last appointment they weighed her. They got out her chart and looked at it, so they knew how much she weighs so they went by the age. She is close to 5 pounds. She didn't throw up anymore and it was about an hour and a half after I gave her the pill. She has been acting fine today and last night before we went to bed so that makes me feel better. Plus I haven't seen any more fleas and she isn't scratching anymore. Hopefully it's worked and the throwing up was just a side effect. Thanks for letting me know about the Frontline being available at other places! I don't live near one of those places so I'm going to have to order online and have it shipped. Does everyone else give monthly doses for heartworms and intestinal worms? The Trifexis prevents against fleas, heartworms, and intestinal worms and it was $20. |
I am so scared of all this stuff. I do give mine Interceptor every month but I have the Confortus over in a drawer right now that I am afraid to give them. Its just scary. I had a little schnauzer lose the use of her back legs for a short time due to Frontline Plus. I swore then I would never put anything on them again. We have used Advantage once since then with no problems but its just like putting poison on their little bodies and in them. |

Yes, I think most of us give heartworm preventatives on YT. Statistically though, about 55% of owned dogs in the US don't get it. Very scary.. Spinosad (Comfortable, Trifexis) do not have the best safety profile. Comfortis may work well, but I personally won't use it. |

You can order from Dr Smith and Foster. They have free shipping and you can usually google for a $5 coupon. |
Triflexis My vet said to cut the pills in half and give half one day and the other half the next day. This has worked for both of mine. |
Works for Tessa... |
I just got Trifexis for the first time today when I went to refill Sophie Kates Heartgard and Comfortis. She will take the first one on June 15th, the Vet told me to make sure she takes it on a full tummy. Will let you know how this works for us. |
