Hello From a New Member :) Mia and I are excited to be a part of Yorkietalk! I got little Mia exactly 1 year ago and she quickly stole my heart. I have learned so much in so little time but realize I still have so much to learn about my sweet little girl. After 1 year we are still not able to find a food Mia will eat on her own...she is so picky and finicky. Our vet is wanting her on high protein. She is only 2.5 lbs on a good day! Any suggestions on food? Ways to get her to eat? etc? This past week she got really sick with a 104.8 fever from a respiratory infection and our vet had us feed her critical care prescription wet food by a syringe. I really want to find a food that Mia enjoys eating. With her blood sugar issues, I feed her 4 times a day...which ends up being very time consuming since she fights it. Mia and I are both open to any suggestions and willing to try anything to help make feeding time more enjoyable for both of us! :) |
I have a very picky eater too and after trying numerous differnt brands - dry, canned, adding cooked meat, cheese, etc. (she didn't want ANY of it) Alice finally ate with gusto when I gave her raw. I know it's not for everyone, (I'm not too thirlled about dealing with it either:rolleyes:) but it is their natural diet, keeps them even more healthy than the best kibble and Alice very quickly confirmed that for me lol. If you want to start easy, see if you can find frozen Nature's Variety, Primal or Stella & Chewy's at a local petstore (petco and petsmart won't have any of it though). I was just on a thread too where a few people have their dogs on Honest Kitchen (dehydrated raw meat, veggies and some fruit that you add water to) so I ordered that too. I've been changing their meals each time - nature's variety raw, then kibble/canned, then raw chicken with some bone in, then canned with some freeze dried liver mixed in etc. She's excited for every single meal :) |
My little one (3.6#) is a very picky eater also! I tried all kinds of dog foods. I finally started giving her boiled chicken breast in the mornings. I boil up a couple at a time, cut it up into bite size pieces, bag it up and freeze the rest. For a little variety I've found she will eat ground turkey as well. She is allergic to beef so this seems to work well. She can't wait for her breakfast every morning. I still want her to eat some dog food so someone on here suggested sprinkling a bit of parmesan cheese on it. I often will do this in the evenings. She will eat a little bit that way. She picks out the kibbles that she likes, and I find the rest of them strewn throughout the house!:) Good luck with finding something that works for your little one. I know how frustrating this is! |
