Preggos Diet Does anyone have a good recipe for a preggo Yorkie. She is 2-3 weeks into her Preg. Right now I am giving her a mix of ground beef, ground chicken, chicken liver, brown rice and mixed veggies (green beans, carrots, peas and corn), I also put half a spoon of cottage cheese. She really likes it. I make sure to limit the fat, and dont add any salt or seasonings. Is this enough? What are some good Prego yorkie supplements? |
Be careful of how good you feed her. While she is enjoying her new menu, it could make her get too fat or her puppies too large to pass. JMHO |
She must love getting spoiled. hehe |
I feed her about the same amount as before, I just changed up the formula. But you are right, i dont want her pups tp get too big so cant pass them. Do you have any experience with prego yorkies? any excersice program? |
My Gracie is 7 weeks pregnant today. She is still on the dry food with occasionally (like 2 times now) and little something extra. I don't do any exercises with her and since she is so far along, she really doesn't want to do much but lay around anyway. One week for them is like 1 month for us. Yes, I do have experience whelping litters. In her last week, I'll give her a calcium suppliment to help prevent eclampsia and will continue the calicum suppliments while she is nursing. Is this your first litter? |
Also, once she whelps, boil a chicken and debone it and mix that with rice. |

What she needs now is regular short walks . |
diet I do not change the diet the first 4 weeks. At 5 weeks I add cottage cheese and liver 3 times a week...but just a tablespoon. They get a few bites of chicken or cheese daily at 7, 8 and 9...No suppliments are needed with a quality dog food...NO CALCIUM tabs before whelping. I keep my breeding females on puppy food. Please be careful about overfeeding, you can wind up with a fat girl who has a difficult whelping. Be sure she eats a quality dry kibble...believe it or not I have fed nothing but high quality dog food for 9 weeks and had litters of 5, 6 and 7 fat pups..and mom was well filled out after whelping. The diet after whelping is very different for my girls then before. |
