Should I be worrried Molly was fixed today (spaded) and I'm concerned about her licking her incision. Can she hurt it? The vet didnt but a badgage on it. I'm keeping her as still and calm as I can, not an easy task. I also think she has gas because I keep smelling something yucky.Other than that she is doing fine... I'm a new yorkie mom so all this is new to me (not to mention my last dog was a boy ) |
Yes, she can hurt it by licking. We always send home an e collar with our patients after surgery. It can become very red, sore and infected from licking. So if she is licking, i would put a t shirt or something on her to keep her from getting to the incision. |
Thank you so much...I didn't have a doggie t-shirt so I used one of my daughters and knoted it at the top. Hopefully this will help and not aggervate her...poor lil thing. |
She usually sleeps in her kennel at night. Should I have her sleep with me? |
That's up to you....I personally have all my babies in bed with me...but since she's used to sleeping in her kennel....she might prefer it...then again...if you let her in your bed...you may not get her out of it...hehe :D |

Hope she is in good spirits and heals well :) |
I would definitely try and keep her from licking her incision site. I do have soft cone collars available if you are interested. Or you could try a onesize. You would put it on backwards so her tail would stick out the snaps. lol, the problem I had with Maggie after her spay (I hadn't come up with the Kiss-E collar yet) was that she got to the pad to pee before I could take the onesize off. She peed right thru it! lol |
1 Attachment(s) Izzy just ot fixed on Monday and I have her in a Onesies.. Yes like the bay ones... they are AWESOME!!! it's been great, keeps her warm and covers in wound and still lets air through... |
Thank you everybody... She is doing great...I'm going to try the onesie. Great idea |
