Treats anyone? I've read alot on the net about home made doggie treats and I just know I won't make them. My family is lucky I cook for them everynight. I don't make breakfast and I don't pack lunches. That's just me. The problem is, I haven't found any treats to reward Milo that he likes. I've tried Cheerios, I took him to Petco and gave him all the treats they have there to sample and he just didn't like any of them. I feel bad rewarding him with a bite of his own puppy food. Any suggestions? :confused: |
I give Luigi the Golfish crackers with chedder!!! He loves them!! I had the same problem!!! He didn't like any of the treats either!!! But he loves his Fishys!!! :Puppy: |
i baked some beef liver for my two. they really go after that. i cut it in small pieces and bake it for a short time. when it cools i give very little of it at a time. it stinks when i am baking it tho. i am going to try some chicken liver next. it is cheap and they love it. |

Since I switched Carter's food from Science Diet to Nutro NC Ultra because of the better quality of the food, I use the Nutro treats. Carter loves them. |
I use liver treats and yogurt drups. The liver treats and be cut into fourths (this is what I do, anyway) and the yogurt dops in half. For me, they have worked wonders for training :D |

did you try honey nut cheerios? archie likes those. I also give him puperoni, but usually milk bone dog biscuits. In addition, his FAVORITE treat is cheese. One slice of American cheese keeps him really happy. i tried liver treats and archie reluctantly ate one and threw it up. I try to avoid giving him too many treats because one biscuit is like lunch for a yorkie. you can just make anything into a "treat." there's nothing wrong with keeping different dog food and calling it a treat if that's what's a treat for your dog. |
i also remembered one more treat Archie LOVES. hard boiled eggs (c'mon! it's not real cooking. it's a boiled egg!) |
Some friends recently told us that their yorkie loved baby carrots so we tried that. Reagan loves them. I cut up a couple of them into small pieces and put them in the fridge with a little bit of water so they don't dry out and just pop them out when we're ready to practice training or what not. She gets excited when she sees the fridge open and her little cup of carrots come out. I asked the vet and she said that it was ok and I figured that they were probably healthier than some of the dog treats(although we still use those too). |
Have you tried Greenies yet? They love them and they are good for their teeth and breath. Pup corn is good too. Those goldfish crackers are not good for their teeth. They will cause plaque buildup, as will other human foods. :rolleyes: |
I often feel bad eating dinner in front of my 13 week old as he just looks at me with those begging eyes. I'M SO TEMPTED TO FEED HIM TABLE FOOD, but I know it would upset his tummy. What can I give him to make him think he's getting something special. Something that doesn't require much on my part, I don't cook. Something that is safe for a 13 year old yorkie to eat. Aren't the goldfish too salty for them? Hard boiled eggs, are they okay. I feel so ignorant but those are two things I could accomplish, goldfish and eggs. |

hard boiled eggs are actually good for dogs. they are recommended for dogs with health problems, and they're digestable and I haven't noticed anything bad because of it. Archie likes to eat the yolks first and he sort of plays with the whites and then eats them. Dogs can generally eat some of the good healthy stuff we do as long as you're aware of what's in the food. People cook for their dogs daily. The eggs are like a huge treat for Archie. I give him omelets cut up in pieces, too. A lot of the really healthy natural dog foods have carrots, eggs, apples, so why not? Apples are good. there's a lot of fiber. Take a look at the food Merrick makes and see what they put in there...it's like lamb, chickpeas, and apples. You can get a lot of ideas of what's acceptable just by looking at ingredients in the good pet foods. The good thing about the hard boiled eggs is that you can make a few beforehand and keep them to give to your yorkie later on. After I boil the egg, I pop out the yolk and give it to Archie like in a little ball. He likes that. |
Too funny Lickthestar !! Never would I have ever thought of using a hard boiled egg yolk as a ball. That is hilarious but as I laugh I know Im gonna have to try it, LOL :D |
