Transitioning to adult formula Scarlett is turning a year old this Sunday, so I'm getting ready to transition both she and Rhett to the adult version of Blue Buffalo. The clerk at the feed store said since I am keeping to the same brand and same protein source, that I could do a straight switch. If I was concerned, I could do a 50/50 mix for a few days. In your experience, is that too fast? Should I do it over a longer period of time? I'm going from BB Small Breed puppy with chicken and oatmeal to BB small breed with chicken and rice. |
In my experience if it's the same brand food with same protein based formula then I do a straight switch. I haven't had problems with that. I recently switched Troy from Merricks Chicken Grammy Pot Pie recipe to Blue Bluffalo Chicken and Rice. Although I did the 50/50 with this Troy ate around the Merricks. No loose stools but horrendous gas. We've been on it a 4 days and I give it a thumbs up thus far. |
I'd do a straight switch, especially with Blue. Their puppy and adult formulas are very similar, as well as most of their formulas being similar with different main proteins. That makes it easy if you ever want to switch between flavors and stuff. |
It's not a big deal if you're staying in the same brand. You can do the 50/50 if you want to, but I wouldn't even necessarily bother. The only main difference typicaly in puppy food is that it's higher in calories and protien. |
