Pfizer is stopping the sale of ProMeris |
This part is interesting. It sounds like they are going to get every penny out of it while they can. A study published recently in Veterinary Dermatology suggests ProMeris “has the potential of triggering a variant of PF (pemphigus foliaceus).” But Pfizer officials aren’t acknowledging a connection between the study and its decision to discontinue the product line. “There is no response to that article at this point,” Donner says. “I think it’s under review.” Pfizer began notifying veterinarians about the discontinuation of both the canine and feline formulations of ProMeris this month, but Donner says the company will fulfill current orders while supplies last, or until Sept. 20. |
Very interesting. It was launched right before I left my last tech job and the vet ordered a few but was only suggesting it for dogs with demodectic mange. I used Revolution a few times since the rep gave us all a 3 pack for each dog we had and I had no problems, glad I never used the Promeris though;) |
I had talked to a vet about ProMeris for demodex. She wasn't a fan at all. Said she saw it fail and wouldn't recommend it. I guess the product can't be too great if they are already ready to stop making it! It looks like Revolution has the highest number of ineffective against heartworm larvae complaints. Not a fan. |
I asked my vet about HeartGuard versus Revolution just last Tuesday and he told me the same thing. That there were dogs usning Revolution still coming up with heartworms. |
I'm assuming dr._ learned that quickly lol, I resigned before I could find out. Good to know about the Revloution in case anyone I know askes me about it, we don't really have heartworm here (a handfull of Katrina rescues brought a few cases up, but that was it) so it's not commonly used anyway. I like Heartguard better anyway since it protects against roundworms which is common because of all the wild critters that hang out in everyone's yards lol. That's why I stick with my tried and true Frontline/Heartguard combo:D Thanks for the info:) |
Geez Louise, don't tell me revolution is bad. :( That is what I put Teddie on...time to make an emergency trip to the vet to get Heartguard like I have the other 3 dogs on. Frontline chaser coming right up... You guys are GODS and GODESSES with info. Thank you for the info as always... |

i use revolution on coco because its really popular in Korea. Mickey used to be on frontline. The vet told me he reccs revolution because it prevents more types than frontline. Remember that these medications are preventative measure it will not guarentee anything. if a dog's meant to get heartwarm it will... just like the flu shot. I get a flu shot every year and i would say every 3 years i get sick with a really bad flu |
I have asked my vet about revolution versus heartguard and got the same answer. I have six dogs, one of which is 14yrs old. They are all tested every year for heartworm and intestinal parasites and always come up with a clean bill of health. We will continue to use heartguard. |
