My Yorkie Has FLEAS PLEASE HELP I have tried mult-k9 advantage no good. now Iam trying to debate between Trifexis and Comfortis which one do anyone use this tried home remedy Lemon Flea Repellent it look like it's working first day I've used it. Please help me |
What is the theory of the home Lemon flea remedy? I have never heard of this. We use Frontline Plus and I've never had a flea (or a tick). |
First things first you need to get the fleas under control. Vacuum, vacuum, vacuum, and dump the bag out (or if bagless, dump the contents.) There are flea sprays for upholstery that you need to get for the couches, chairs, any carpet that you have. I have Teddie on Revolution heartworm meds with flea prevention, so far so good, have had the other dogs on it too and never had an issue. I am a BIG fan of tea tree oil. I put some water in a regular spray bottle, add 10 drops of tea tree oil, shake, and spray dogs with it. (no eyes, no face--NOT to be ingested!) Fleas don't come near me or my dogs...Good luck!!!! |
Advantage isn't the best when talking about growth regulation and stopping the life cycle (unless using Advantage II). There is no difference between Comfortis and Trifexis for flea control. It's just that Trifexis has an extra ingredient to prevent heartworms. Spinosad, the active ingredient in both, is an adulticide. You will still have some life cycle issues with it. I would do Frontline Plus on all of your pups for at least three months while vacuuming often and washing everything. If Frontline doesn't work in your area, then you could do Advantage II, Advantage and Program, etc. |

I agree, you need Frontline to break the life cycle. I've been using it for many years, it's very safe as far as these things go. Another trick for getting them out of carpet - buy a "flea collar" at a pet store, cut it up into a few pieces (wash your hands very well afterward) and put the pieces into your vaccuum bag or canister. After you vaccum, let it sit for about 20 minutes or so. That should kill most of them so they don't make their way out when you dump the vaccuum canister. |
Your solution should not only be focused on remedies on the pup, you need to address the entire environment. - Launder EVERYTHING the pup touches. If your pup sleeps with you take your entire bed apart; and launder everything down the the mattress pad. - Vacuum every rug, every sofa, chair, etc that your pup reaches. Discard the bag OUTSIDE immediately after vacuuming. - You may need to steam clean all of your carpets - I actually do not use topical treatments on Remy. He is on Sentinel heart worm meds that do have an anti-flea component (once on him, when they bite, they do not lay eggs) I do flea comb regularly. When he did have a bout of fleas awhile back, I flea combed him thoroughly, then drew a deep bath - filling the bathtub with water. Use regular Dawn dish soap on the pup - first putting a ring of it around his or her neck. Lather well, and submerse the pup in the bath (except the head obviously). The Dawn will help to kill the fleas; the submersion will drown them and get them out of the hair. Rinse very well. Again, this works on the pup but you have to treat the entire house to break the cycle. - If you pup is in your car a great deal (as Remy is in mine) I actually had all of my carpets / floor mats steam cleaned too. (Fortunately I have leather seats). Good luck, fleas a pain - |
