Do You Feed the Same Flavor Every Meal or Offer Different Flavors In the Same Brand? Do you always feed the exact same flavor (kibble or canned) for each meal or change it up to give variety? I'm assuming from the many posts in the Premium Food thread that most of you choose a brand you feel good about and stick with that brand, is that correct? Before we learned the difference between quality foods and the typical grocery store options, we chose (what we thought was) a good brand and always bought a variety of flavors to keep Daisy interested. LOL, probably projecting our human preference for variety, but she seemed happy to have more than one kind of food. What do you find with your Yorkies? Does changing flavors upset their stomach like changing brands, or do they get 'bored' with the same taste day after day? :animal36 |
I am a home cooker, so things are slightly different but for the most part, my dogs eat the same exact meals every day. Their snacks and vegetables are rotated and varied but their meals are the same. You could add fresh vegetables like green beans to your dog's food which will give variation and not change the diet significantly. Veggies usually only add water, fiber and a sense of fullness. Mine love green beans, zucchini, carrots, celery, broccoli, bell peppers. |
I usually change the "flavor" with each new bag of food that I buy, not only to give the dogs more variety in taste, but to change up the protein source. You don't have to by any means, it's just something I like to do:) My Yorkie is really picky, so for her I've just recently (after much struggle getting her to eat well:rolleyes:) found a brand of canned food that she likes mixed into her puppy dry food and I switch the "flavor" every 2 -3 days and I buy as much of a variety as the brand carries. Every dog is different though, some of them this will upset their tummy, but for mine they do fine. I do stay within the same brand though unless there's a reason for a switch. There are some brands that are actually meant to be rotated through the different flavors, such as Nature's Variety. It's really up to you and your dogs whether or not you do it:D although I do think offering a wide variety of protien sources does benefits their health. |
I feed Primal pre-made raw, and feed a different protein w/each bag...We rotate between chicken, beef, lamb, quail, pheasant for Christmas, and venison for Thanksgiving lol, because they're expensive...Primal has other proteins, too, so it's keeps the babies happy and healthy...I think it's important to rotate proteins, whether it be canned, kibble or raw... |
We use Honest Kitchen and rotate between flavors at each meal. They never have the same flavor 2x in a row unless we are on vacation. |
