I'm terrified..Heart worms?!?!?! So, I took Lucy to the vet yesterday for her checkup. She has been on heart worm preventatives since she was old enough. The vet did a heart worm test and the first one came back negative. But in the second test where they examine the blood they found one microfilaria..the vet told me it could be a baby heart worm..or some other kind of parasite just passing through. So they sent her blood off to the heart worm preventative company and will call as soon as they get results. She told me it was probably nothing to worry about. But- In the meantime..I am absoluetely terrified! I've done everything I can to keep her safe from heart worms and I'm trying so hard not to be upset. Lucy is tiny..about 4 1/2 pounds and only 1 yr and 3 mos old! Has anyone experienced anything like this?! Thanks for any help! :( |
Could it just have been that the drug hadn't gotten to it yet? Heartworm disease is possible, but I wouldn't think it would be too far advanced with no symptoms, yearly testing, and year-round preventative. Some drugs work better than others. If adults are present, there is still an extremely good chance that everything will be fine with treatment. |
I hope it comes back negative! And I'm sure it's not too advanced..I just am worried if she did have to go through the treatment because shes so dang small :(. It's so funny becuase our lab stays outside and gets into everything and doesn't see the vet nearly as much as lucy and hes fine! |
How did your test come back? |
The test came back negative! :) They vet will recheck in 6 months just to be sure everything is okay. |
