Does anyone else have a little piggy? Cricket is 12 weeks old and I think that she would eat until the cows come home. I feed her our vets recommended dosage which is the same as the food bag feeding but it's like she is hungry all day. Her main foucs in life is food....well I guess that's mine too! ;) |
When was her last deworming? What's on the bag is a general recommendation for the average dog. She could require quite a bit more or quite a bit less. How much are you feeding daily and how many times? How many cal per cup is the food? Yes, I have a piggy, but in our case it's a medical issue. |
I am in the process of swtiching her from Purina Puppy Chow to Wellness for Puppy. I give her almost a quarter of a cup of PC and fill in the rest with Wellness twice a day. Her last deworming was March 31, 2 days before I got her but she is on the Advantage Multi so that should have taken care of any residual worms I would think. |
Since she is 12 weeks old, she should be fed at least 3 times a day. I can't get into the Purina site to see the recommendation, but Wellness for Puppy is 1 cup for a 3lb pup that is 6-11 weeks old and 1 - 1/4 cups for a 3lb pup that is 3-4 months old. I would definitely add a midday meal and increase the amount some. |

When my babies were 12 weeks old...I was told by my breeder and Vet to free feed until they were 6 mos old...cause these little guys burn energy fast and need to eat more often...if they were picky eater not to change that but if they were good eaters to change at 6 mos old to 3x a day until they were 12 mos than drop it down to 2x a day...Bella is 2 1/2 yrs and just picks at her kibble and Harley is almost 7 mos and he is a very picky eater so I keep kibble down 24/7...but I also give canned food or boiled chicken and rice once daily, Bella eats that right up but Harley still picks...now my old lady Bailey RIP was a piggy so I only fed her 2x a day, kibble once a day and canned food once a day. |
