got into can cat food Winston is 10 months old and got into our cat's can food. His stool is runny, is there anything I can do to help him? |
The problem with cat food is the high protein content. What kind of health is Winston normally in? What kind of blood tests has your vet run on him in the past? How are his kidneys? How often is he having the loose stools? How long ago did he eat the cat food? If he is at all dehydrated (light gums) I would take him to the vet right away. If he starts to vomit in addition to the loose stools get him to the vet. If he becomes lethargic get him to a vet. Small dog's systems are very sensitive (as I'm sure you know) and if Winston is at all prone to kidney problems he should be seen right away by a vet (just to be safe). If nothing else the vet can give you something for the runny stools and piece of mind. |
got into cat food He is in very good health and checked out fine at the vet. He has not vomitted. In fact yesterday he ate his own Tast of the Wild food so I thought maybe today he would be ok. The stool is not real runny and the last two seem to be firming up but I was just worried about him. He ran around last night but did go on to his bed last night without being ask to. |
I think I've read on here that some canned pumpkin (not spiced, the 100% pumpkin) is good for hardening up the stools. I'm sure if you do a search you can find how much to give based on body weight. |
It's probably just a waiting game. Jackson has gotten into cat food before at my dads house but it's never upset his tummy, thankfully. Good luck :) |
He should be ok as long as it doesn't persist (of course if it does or he has anything else go on, see your vet) but since it seems to be firming up and he's eating his own food and other wise acting normal, give the pumpkin a try as Duece said, or you can give him rice water (just boil white rice normaly but with twice the amount of water then drain out the water into a bowl and let cool to room temperature) and see if he'll drink it - that works amazingly for runny or too soft stools that are just cause by a minor tummy upset. |
