Trifexis-Anyone giving it? My vet is promoting a new flea/heartworm medication. Just curious if anyone else is tryint it and what your thoughts are. Here is the info he has given on it. TRIFEXIS is a chewable flea and heartworm preventative! The active ingredient is a proven "adulticide" that begins killing adult fleas within 30 minutes of administration, and keeps killing fleas for 30 days. The rapid action of this product ensures true flea control - fleas that are dead can't lay their eggs, which means their offspring can't infest your home! Trifexis also prevents heartworm disease when given monthly. PLUS, it also prevents the infestation of common intestinal parasites that pets(and humans) can contract from the environment. All this protection is available in ONE monthly chewable tablet! This makes providing prevention easier than EVER! Trifexis is a prescription medication available only through licensed veterinarians. Your dog must have been seen by one of our veterinarians within the last 12 months and have a current negative heartworm test on file to use Trifexis. |
I have not heard of it, something for me to research for me now, it would be nice for people that use the heartworm, all in one |
My daughter-in-law is a vet tech for our vet. They offer Trifexis and she can get it free. She told me she is not going to try it on her dogs until there is more data available. She hasn't heard anything bad about it, just leary of it being so new. |
There is a very recent thread about Trifexis in Health and Diet. It's just milbemycin oxime and spinosad (so it would be like giving Interceptor and Comfortis). And it's from a different company (Elanco). My guess is that it's fine, but that's if you want to try something newr like spinosad. My preference is to hold off on newer drugs until there is a lot of data that I can look at. |
We just switched to Comfortis last month when our Advantix failed. I would think that the product would be safe but I don't like giving both meds at once so I think I'll stick with the Comfortis + HW meds like we are currently doing. |
The only thing I don't like about the few different 2 in one preventatives is that they don't take care of ticks (Revolution might but if I remember correctly it doesn't). I guess if you don't have ticks in your area it doesn't matter, but here in Pennsylvania I could never get away without a tick preventative. |
